Never ask a child to do something you wont demonstrate at practice such as taking a charge, blocking out, dive on the floor for a loose ball, for example. Coaches always expect children to perform this but won’t even demonstrate it themselves. Showing them goes a long way for them to mature and understand what you want and need from them.
Some coaches believe in no time off. I don’t agree. I think all athletes should take a small break from their dominant sport for a sanity check. To each is own with coaches demanding their athletes to only focus on one specific sport and only do that sport all the time. I can say this, no matter how much love you have for the game, you can and will get burned out if you don’t take a break.
