Jersey Canoe Club Nordkapp 50th Anniversary Weekend 24th May 2025

Fabulous paddle at Ouaisne on Sunday with conditions much better than expected. Followed by an exclusive tour of Corbiere lighthouse in the afternoon .
Mondays paddle was a leisurely trip from St Catherines slip to Rozel Bay and "The Hungry Man", for a coffee and early lunch. The wind , sadly , prevented any offshore trips but thankfully it was dry. The whole weekend ,however has been absolutely brilliant. "Gone Paddling" were also on hand , displaying the latest boats from Valley, including the Nordkapp Forti. It's great to see that Nordkapp RM's are once again , available.
Thank you to everyone who participated and made it once again a really worthwhile event . This was our 3rd but I'm sure there will be more to come . :-) Photos :- Credit to Iris

Great Nordkapp 50th anniversary weekend despite windy conditions. Saturday was a paddle along the east coast from St Catherine’s to Icho and back. We were catered for on Saturday evening with a delicious menu prepared by Paul ( aka Gourmet Adventures). Sunday consisted of a paddle from Ouaisne towards Corbiere and back. This was followed by an afternoon tour of the lighthouse, and for some, a tour of the German bunkers at Corbiere. Monday consisted of a paddle from St Catherine’s for lunch at Rozel’s “Hungry Man”.

The 50th Anniversary Nordkapp weekend is nearly upon us.

The Nordkapp weekend is fast approaching. The tides are midway between neaps and springs and the times are fairly ideal for offshore paddles, weather permitting.

Friday evening:- meeting up socially for whoever wishes, and to welcome anyone from overseas.

Saturday morning:- day paddle to the ecrehoes, on the water by 9.30. Packed lunch.
Saturday evening Bbq at the clubhouse. We’ve been kindly offered use of the sailing club facilities.

Sunday and Monday :-day paddle to the Dirouilles or coastal paddles, depending upon weather.
For anyone keen, there will be the option of additional paddles through the week and possibly joining the Wednesday day paddle also.
Unfortunately this year is none residential Communication will be by this site and the WhatsApp group .

The cost is £30 to include the bbq, all the paddles and temporary club membership for any non members.

For anyone who needs to borrow a Nordkapp, please can you let me know asap, as some owners will be off island soon.

(It will be mandatory for non members to complete a membership form for insurance reasons. ) As per club policy everyone should have completed a wet exit this year.

The Dirouilles. Another offshore reef which has a great landing beach on any tides less than 2 metres at low water. It’s position is such, that it is a relatively easy paddle with plenty of tidal assistance providing you paddle at the correct times.

Great paddle today. The Ecrehoes. An offshore reef only 5 miles from Jersey. We hope to paddle this,and other offshore reefs over the May bank holiday weekend. For anyone keen to come, but prefer flying, Spare Nordkapp boats are available. PM us for further details.

Late 70’s Nordkapp HM getting a makeover. Chimp pump removed, new bulkhead installed behind seat along with a day hatch. Rear Henderson hatch replaced with an oval hatch, cockpit rim, cut into multiple parts and relocated further forward with spaces between the sections to form a larger cockpit. All the work is done with epoxy for additional strength. Credit to Jim Oxenham.

Jersey offers some excellent paddling around the coastline and on the offshore reeefs. The new ferry service is up and running for anyone thinking of coming over from France or the UK. There is also the possibility of borrowing a boat for the weekend , for anyone who wants to fly . Please don't hesitate to get in touch by messaging , if you need any further details or are thinking of coming over .

Wolfs Lair, on the North Coast is accessible from the sea, via a path up a small stream. It has bunks, basic facilities and some space for camping/ BBQ’s. We’ve reserved it for the weekend so that it’s available if needed.

Further details. :- The cost of the weekend has been set at £30 to cover paddles , incidental expenses and also temporary club membership for any visitors. We've reserved "Wolfs Lair " for the weekend and also hope to include some paddles to the offshore reefs, weather permitting .
