More on starting a journaling practice

Setting a Schedule
Once you've determined the structure of your journal, reflect on your daily routine to determine the best time to practice. For some people, mornings may be best and others may prefer right before bed. Choose a time you can stick to consistently.

Determining how long to journal
We suggest writing for at least 5 minutes. Some may benefit from writing down your start time and the projected end time based on your goal at the top of your page.
Also, using a timer is a great tool to use when you're getting started. Set it and then forget it.

Determining how to end your practice
Contemplate how to end your journaling practice with mindfulness. Once the timer sounds, we invite you to close your eyes or soften your gaze and take deep breaths.
Perhaps, read over what you've written and reflect on it. Consider concluding the day's entry with statements such as

As I read this, I notice that...
Now, I'm aware of/that...
I feel...

If you wrote about future plans and goals, consider bookmarking the page or turning into the action items on a calendar or agenda.
