Plano ng Commission on Elections (COMELEC) na maisama ang birth certificate bilang requirement para sa mga magsusumite ng certificate of candidacy (COC) sa 2026 Barangay at Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE), at sa susunod pang eleksyon.

Paliwanag ni COMELEC chairperson George Garcia, layon nitong maiwasan ang mga kaso ng material misrepresentation at posibleng disqualification ng mga kandidato dahil sa isyu sa edad o citizenship.

"That is so that we can see better, we can know when that person was actually born, to avoid questions if the bets are underage," aniya.
