On sunday 22nd March a few rowers, family and friends gathered to say farewell to Norman “spud” Murphy.
He had been a long standing member at SARC as a Rower/ Life president/coach.
It was a beautiful sunny day and having taken spud for a last journey up the itchen he was scattered in the bay outside club in view of family & friends. His daughter Siobhan said these very lovely words…..
Goodnight dear dad
I love you heart and soul
Let’s not leave it goodbye
But instead …… Easy all

It’s our first social fundraiser 2026. All proceeds are going towards the 'big boat fund' 🚣.
We are trading blades for pop stars because we’re hosting a MADCAP BINGO MUSIC NIGHT that’s guaranteed to be ROWDIER than a boat full of competitive rowers! 🎵🔥. The coffee machine will be on, the kettle will be brewing, snacks will be on the tables and the alcohol will be flowing - for those who like a drink or two.
📅 When? Friday, 27th February – Kick-off at 7:30pm ish… depending on how long it takes you to remember how to play bingo and understand the rules 😂
📍 Where? The only place we spend more time in than our own homes – where the only waves will be soundwaves! The boathouse, Hazel Road, Woolston, SO19 7GA
💷 How much? A mere £10 per person (that’s cheaper than a Spotify subscription and way more social!). Kids under 14 are free.
🎁 Prizes? Oh yes, there are super-exciting – let’s just say… you’ll want to win them. 😉
🎲 How it works:
✔️ Bingo with a bit of a twist.
✔️ Air guitars encouraged and we have plenty of inflatable ones – No rhythm? No problem!
✔️ Prizes + bragging rights – Because who doesn’t love both?
🚨 Tickets must be confirmed by 20th February – grab yours before they’re all gone like a one-hit wonder!
🎤 Warning: Side effects may include spontaneous singing, dancing on chairs, questionable dance moves, and uncontrollable laughter.
Past and present members are welcome, including friends of the club.
See you there – let’s make some noise! 🎶✨
