The storm may have knocked down trees, taken out power, damaged homes, and turned a lot of our normal routines upside down, but it also showed just how strong this community really is.
Over the last several days, we’ve watched neighbors helping neighbors. People clearing branches from yards that weren’t their own. Checking on families without power. Sharing generators, food, tools, and whatever else they had. Volunteers giving up their time to help clean up parks, fields, streets, and neighborhoods. People simply asking, “What can I do to help?”
At Munster Babe Ruth, we’ve felt that support firsthand. People showed up this weekend and put in hours of work helping clean up and get our fields back into shape. Not because they had to, but because they cared.
We were fortunate. While our fields took some damage and needed plenty of cleanup, our friends at Munster Little League were hit even harder and have a much bigger recovery ahead of them.
They are part of our baseball community too.
As we get our fields cleaned up and our players back on the diamond, we want to make sure we don’t forget about them. If there are opportunities to lend a hand, donate, or support their recovery efforts in the days and weeks ahead, we encourage our Babe Ruth families and the entire community to support them however they can.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t about Babe Ruth or Little League. It isn’t about whose field your kid plays on or what uniform they wear.
It’s about Munster. It’s about our kids. And it’s about taking care of each other.
There are still families dealing with damage. There are still people without power and people working through much bigger problems than getting back to a baseball field. But through all of it, it has been incredible to see how quickly this community has come together.
Sometimes it takes a difficult moment to remind us what “community” really means.
It isn’t the buildings, the parks, or the baseball fields.
It’s the people.
To our first responders, town employees, utility crews, volunteers, local businesses, coaches, parents, players, neighbors, friends, and everyone else who has stepped up in ways big and small, thank you.
And to our friends at Munster Little League, we’re with you. ❤️⚾
We’re proud to call Munster home.
