On November 9, 1989, the Berlin Wall fell, marking one of the most important moments of the 20th century. Built in 1961, the wall divided East and West Berlin and became a powerful symbol of the Cold War and the division between communist and Western Europe. For nearly three decades, families and friends were separated by the barrier. Growing public protests, political changes, and pressure for greater freedom eventually weakened East Germany’s government. When border restrictions were unexpectedly announced, thousands of people gathered at the checkpoints. The wall soon opened, and crowds celebrated together.
