Heading to Durban tomorrow for final SA Olympic trials. Plus excited to be competing in Currie Cup at the end of the week - the first proper competition since lockdown began ☀️

After the swim test at the Olympic Selection Camp in February. Ready to take on March ☀️

25/02/2011 - the first of two hip operations, six weeks apart, inactive for six months and on crutches for three of those.
It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years.
While thinking back to the pain and difficulty I endured during this period, it acts as a pertinent reminder that our bodies are built to heal.
This body has been injured and broken.
But this body is healing and recovering every day.
You can barely see the scars anymore.
This body is infinitely capable.
I’m grateful for the trials, because otherwise the triumphs would have no meaning.

Women only started competing in the Olympics swimming competitions in 1912 – 16 years after men. In 1912, F***y Durack, representing Australasia (a combined team of athletes from Australia and New Zealand), set a new world record of 1:19.8 in the heats of the 100m freestyle before advancing to the final and being crowned the first ever women’s swimming Olympic champion. In the late 1910s Durack would go on to hold every single world record in women’s swimming from the 100m freestyle to the one-mile freestyle.
