Rice has a very strong potential to be a heavy player in DIAA rugby, especially with the pool of high school talent from the region. But p...

Thank you to all those who came out yesterday. We were astounded by the support and love shown by the community for Pedrie and his family. During the tournament many inquired about the memorial t-shirts. We have set up an online order form below and all proceeds will go to the Wannenburg family. We will be submitting the first order on Friday May 6, so be sure to submit your response soon!

Rice Rugby Club would like to welcome all to the Pedrie Wannenburg Memorial Spring Sevens Tournament. This tourney, which would have been held last Saturday, is dedicated to the memory of our Head Coach Pedrie Wannenburg.

The games will be held this Saturday, 4/30, between 2-4 PM at the Houston Sabercats Practice Field 1 where rugby teams will be coming together from all over the state to remember Pedrie’s dedication to the sport.

Before the games begin, we will hold a minute's silence and a prayer for Pedrie and his family at 2pm.

At the tournament there will be merchandise sold with all proceeds going to support the Wannenburg family. All are welcome to enjoy a beautiful afternoon of rugby.

Today, the world rugby community mourns the loss of Pedrie Wannenburg, one of the greatest players, coaches, and supporters the sport could ask for. Here at Rice, Pedrie will be especially missed.

Pedrie stepped in as head coach for the 2021-2022 season. Thanks to his leadership on and off the pitch, and the wealth of rugby knowledge he held, Pedrie pushed the Rice Rugby club to unprecedented success. Although only through one season, we are endlessly grateful for the time he dedicated to our team. Pedrie was not just a coach and player, he was a father, a husband, and a true friend to all those he encountered. He provided selfless guidance and mentorship to those under his care and he will be dearly remembered and missed. He is truly a legend, and his impact stretches across several countries and continents.

The Rice Rugby club sends our thoughts and prayers to Pedrie’s wife Evette, his daughter Isabelle, and to his son François who is in critical care as a result of the accident. The sacrifices made by the Wannenburg family were a huge piece of Pedrie's impact on all of our lives, and the least we can do is ensure they are well supported. Please help us offer a hand to the Wannenburg family by donating to the GoFundMe, linked here:
