Ferndale Athletic Youth 4 - 4 Cilfynydd Youth

Very tough game to take. We started very solid and stuck to shape and structure which led to a neat finish from an attacking set piece. Cilfynydd had a lucky break and our defender tracking back made a last ditch tackle which ended up inside our own net, so very frustrating first goal to concede but that’s football it happens.

We than re-took the lead with a very neat penalty after some brilliant trickery from our winger taking on 3/4 players. A couple of moments then hitting the bar missed chances where we really should’ve stamped our authority in the game came back to haunt us.

We furthered our lead to 3-1 after what felt like an age from our previous goal. Cilfynydd continued to battle despite our initial dominance and pulled it back to 3-2 a we then extended our lead again to 4-2 at which point we thought we had the game won.

As we have learned from this performance it isn’t over until it’s over, a mixture of changes losing our discipline and shape led to us making things difficult and making silly errors which allowed them to come back into the game and tie the scores. Overall the changes they made during the game benefitted them and the changes we made upset our rythym a massive learning curve and plenty of positive s to take from the performance so really excited overall for the season start. A massive thank you to Cilfynydd AFC - massive credit to your boys for fighting throughout and never giving up all the best for the season!

We move on to a very solid game next week for what is potentially our last pre season friendly against a solid bargoed. We’d love to see your support at darran park on 23.08 12pm kick off.

First pre season game of the season done for our youth. Massive thank you to those who came out to support us.

A very tough game to take, we played against a very well drilled and oiled Ton Pentre AFC Youth who played really well for the full 90! And that was the main difference, we were competitive for parts but not long enough. We didn’t take chances ourselves which was a big issue when the opposition took many chances they had!

A massive shoutout to our keeper David for stopping the game going to double digits, made many fantastic saves as usual and is developing massively on his way to becoming a real top keeper and a player we are blessed to have. In addition to this we got many new signings out today who all put a shift in, got some work to do before season starts but I know with this groups of boys we will come on and be competitive.

Onwards and upwards for us plenty of work to do

THROWBACK 🚨

With thanks to Rob Jones we were sent an image going back to 1985/86 when Ferndale held Bristol Rovers to a 3-3 Draw.

Welsh League team who played at Darran Park and were the lead team on the new astro turf.
