GREEN’S CENTURY LEADS ECKINGTON TO VICTORY IN FINAL HOME GAME!!
Yesterday, Eckington CC faced Fladbury at the Eckington Rec. The afternoon showed much promise, with a magnificent tea being put on by both the Fladbury and Eckington teams.
Eckington batted first, and got off to a flier with James Thomas hitting a quick fire 37. The innings faltered slightly with the next two wickets falling fairly quickly for no scores, however whilst the wickets fell at the other end, our captain was going about his work, brining up his 50 in the 15th over. He was joined at the crease by Owen Bates who looked to bat positively and brought up his first half century for the club with a well deserved 67. Not long later, skipper James Green brought up his 100 and retired following a composed innings. Other contributions from H Rosser, T Clements, R Thorner helped us get to an imposing score of 298-7 from our 40 overs.
After the magnificent spread was consumed, Eckington headed out into the field to set about our defence. Fladbury opener B Scorer looked very steady and composed, with little phasing him throughout the innings. However, all he could do was bat through at the other end whilst Eckington chipped away at the other end with a solid all-round bowling and fielding display. Safe hands from Butts, Thorner, Bunn, Clements and Green meant that chances were taken, boundaries were stopped by tidy ground fielding, particularly from Thorner and Bates, and and impassable slip cordon of George Bunn and James Green.
2 wickets each for Callow, Thorner, Clements, and Butts. All 4 of them bowling very tidily. Fincher and H. Rosser also picked up a wicket each, with Fladbury being bowled out for 95, with B Scorer carrying his bat.
Thanks to everyone involved in this game, and all of our home matches! Especially to the Finchers for their hard work on the pitch. The selection of cakes at every home game has been excellent and we look forward to the 2027 season!
