We feel the same, Susan B! 🤩 “I rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a bike. It gives her a feeling of self-reliance and independence the moment she takes her seat; and away she goes, the picture of untrammelled womanhood.”~ Susan B. Anthony, 1896.
Celebrating YOU on National Girls and Women in Sports Day! We are proud to know so many amazing female athletes who inspire one another on the daily! 🙌⭐️💥⚡️🔥

FIVE REASONS TO RIDE SOLO
Hello lady shredders! As the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic sets in, we are all being asked to flatten the curve and slow the spread of disease across our community. It’s tough. Our spring group rides, races and clinics are all on hold, replaced with "stay at home" mandates, shelter in place policies and social distancing guidelines. Luckily, riding solo is still something we can do and has advantages that are uniquely special to mountain biking. Here are just a few. Feel free to share your own personal reasons in the comments below!
1. You can ride when and where you want to! Right now, many are working from home or squeezing in a ride after fighting the good fight in our hospitals and businesses that remain open. Scheduling your ride when and where it suits you takes the pressure off of meet ups and time constraints.
2. It allows you to be in the moment. Mountain biking requires hyper focus. Group rides can often break up your “flow” trying to keep up or waiting for others. Looking down the trail and focusing on “the now” in front of you helps you ride better and as a bonus, takes away the stressors of the outside world.
3. Being alone in the woods helps you feel closer to it. Want to stop and check out the view? Go ahead. Dance in the daffodils? Why not? Connect with nature in whatever way makes you feel a part of it.
4. Session that section! Working on a section you want to ride better is sometimes easier without everyone watching. Stop, check out the lines and ride a section several times to improve your skills and ride it better. Just don’t go over your head on something beyond your current abilities. Ride within your limits on distance and skill when solo!
5. Ride your own pace. Maybe you need a recovery ride to recharge or maybe you want to tackle a Strava segment PR. Riding solo really tests your mettle and fitness level. In return, it teaches you the mental discipline to stick to your plan versus chasing the crowd. RIDE ON, FRIENDS!⚡️💥❤️
Big thank you to The Cyclery and Fitness Center for allowing Shero MTB to host Tubeless Stop 3. Be sure to check out the shop and local events coming up there!

SHERO MTB will be showcasing inspiring women within the mountain bike community in and around the St. Louis area. Who or what inspires you to ride?
Meet Galit Lev-Harir:
Age:53
Career: Vice President, Optum Government Health Services
Years mtbing: since Memorial Day weekend 2018, a year and a half ago.
How did you get into MTBing: I used to bike on the Katy Trail with my friend, Michal. She moved to Israel, where the only bike options are road biking or MTB. She started MTB and loved it! She came back to St. Louis for a visit over Memorial Day weekend 2018, and wanted to know if there were any MTB trails in the area. We rode Bangert and had so much fun that when we finished, we drove straight to Creve Coeur and did a lap at Bootlegger. After that, I was hooked! In July, I bought my bike (a Specialized Rhyme) from Emilie Trailhead Bicycles in Ellisville. Last April, Michal and I rode MTB in Northern Portugal (that was the hardest ride of my life!) and next year, we hope to ride in the Slovenian Alps, on the border with Austria.
Favorite place to shred: Greensfelder and Bluffview/Zombie. I love them both!
What is a typical day for you: I work from home and I try to bike at least 3 times a week. I love night riding, too!
What inspires you to ride: It’s just pure FUN!! I love the adrenaline and I love the challenge. I especially love when I learn how to tackle a difficult technical section. It makes me feel like a kid again!! I competed in my first mountain bike race in June 2019 at Leadbelt Racing and more recently, my 1st night mountain bike race was Dark Side of the Trail at Zombie/Bluff View.
More about you: I was born in Connecticut and moved to Israel in 1987 where I met my husband. We moved to St Louis in 1999. We have three kids, ages 23, 18 and 16. None of them are into biking, although I convinced them to ride with me when we went to Alaska last summer. I have also lost 40 pounds since I started mountain biking. Since I started mountain biking, I was told I was going through a midlife crisis, but my friend says I am going through a midlife flourish!!

What a great way to support our local trail elves despite Mother Nature not cooperating! 👊💥⚡️
WOWstl would like to shout out a big THANK YOU to the UFD and Bob Arnold for supporting women's mountain bike racing with two complimentary entries we raffled off for the Greensfelder Challenge Mountain Bike Race. The Greensfelder Challenge is held each year to showcase not only one of our best local trails, but as a fundraiser for Gateway Off-Road Cyclists. Mother Nature put the double whammy on the race this year with two unfortunate weather-related cancellations. To express our appreciation for both UFD and GORC, WOWstl is donating back to Gateway Off-Road Cyclists to assist with GORC's mission of advocacy, design, construction and trail maintenance of our local mult-use trails. Check out GORC at https://gorctrails.com and consider donating to this worthy cause. Happy trails (and dry ones too)!!!
