Ever notice that almost everyone has an immediate opinion about postures? Some think they are amazing, others think they are unsafe, others say their spine just wasn’t meant to bend like that, and every once in a while you run into someone who just loves bending (okay, not so unexpected if they practice, but sometimes they don’t).
-
-
Our spine houses our central nervous system, and our peripheral nervous system stems from it also, so it’s no surprise the is often intense, can be emotional, and can even produce anxiety. All of these others can somewhat feel (that empathy thing) to a small extent when they see a picture or envision bending. Proof that even images or a mental connection with the idea of bending brings up emotion.
-
-
But that’s what is supposed to happen in our - there is no better way to begin learning how to face anxiety then putting yourself in a situation where you have to listen to your body, trust yourself, and find a way to see through unreal fears to just work with the truth. And with all the forward bending we do each day, it’s simple and true that physically bending back (in a safe and mindful way - read this as find a teacher and work to understand what you should be doing in a backbend) is healthy mobility for our bodies.

One of the biggest yoga lessons we can learn is to use our energy wisely. We see truth and give our time to those things that nourish and encourage. The point isn’t that the process is perfect or enjoyable, but that it has function, the use of energy has an affect.

But we also let go. We leave behind those things that deplete our energy without providing positive change. It might be easy to drop a task or routine, to decide not to pursue a relationship, but those are the easy things. Yoga asks us to let go of things when it’s really tough - when we so extremely want our actions to create change, when we really want to help, when we believe that others we love need something from us that they are not willing to receive.
-
-
At times this letting go part of our seems impossible to our hearts, or even may make others think we are irresponsible (energy conservation doesn’t often win over dogmatic statements of should be in today’s society), but that’s the point of - you never know what you are practicing for but it’s likely that your yogic beliefs will take you to a place where standing behind them is really, really hard work. Those are the times we prepare for, those are the times our pulls us through. The path is not always easy, but it is real and true. The idea is to let go of what we cannot control, no matter the importance of it - once it’s out of our control all energy expended is lost no matter how great our desire to control, or how important we feel the issue is.
-
-
for today. I’m working on en external rotation in my and a compression in along with active extension through the lifted leg.

Welcome to Day 1️⃣ of with a focus on glutes. What is your favorite prop to use to increase difficulty? I have a few but I need some more in my library 😊🙏❤️
-
-
As for glute information, my has taught me a ton about glutes, but here are my two biggest lessons:
🍑You are almost guaranteed you are not using all of your glute muscles in your movements.
🍑 There’s way more to those glutes then just engaging them.
-
-
Glute muscles are central and powerful. It is so very easy to get used to using the back of them, the sides, the bottom or the top, but missing the use of another portion. Rolling on a massage ball will help release tight spots and make them work again, but it takes consistent work - it doesn’t happen overnight.
-
-
Also, there are 3 main glute muscles on each side - maximus, medius and minimus - along with some other smaller muscles underneath. So the simple idea of engaging your glutes can be very unclear. You should try to understand at least the 3 large glute muscles and what they are used for - and then find a teacher who knows how to cue you so that you start understanding the purpose behind your muscular engagement (with your glutes and any other part of your body) - it will take you a long way in your awareness behind your practice.

Stability first. I always say we need a place to stabilize or ground in order to move from that space and open or to find or to build
-
-
Lately I’ve been working on really stabilizing my shoulders in my - practice will take you deep into your shoulder understanding - sometimes it’s overwhelming. It’s made my a little less deep in my but my shoulders and upper back are so much more stable. Always find integrity and stability first. Move and operate from those places of center in both your and your life. ❤️

There is no quite like a - strong and stable requiring you to find and stand steady in your center but still open your heart at the same time and look up toward what the universe has to offer with acceptance.
-
-
It’s easy to want to spice up a regular warrior pose for these squares (I mean that’s what I’m doing here with my and that’s what we are encouraging you to do with this ❤️) but a warrior pose is one of the foundations of our for so many reasons and if we look at what it requires physically and then think of how we can internally transfer those values to our entire lives, it’s pretty powerful. ❤️

All of our lives have been thrown out of whack in some kind of way over the past year so we invite you to join us as we fire up the given posture by adding a balance to it to see how it changes the perspective!
