The ‘Last Dance’ ended in heartbreak for the history makers as they lost in the Semi Finals on penalties against the hosts Watford FC.

The Butterflies were in sentalating form throughout, beating Evergreen, Bishops Stortford, Harpenden, Watford Hornets and Borehamwood on their way to the semis - BUT for the 2nd tournament in a row they went out on pens without conceding goal in the whole tournament.

The goals came from Clementine, Daisy, Beth and Kayla but Rebecca, Scarlotte, Tilly, Faye and Iona were all amazing!

Kayla was on fire throughout and was our player of the tournament.

Training was a bit emotional on Wednesday and today heartbreaking - but the last 7 years have been an truly memorable, friendships made, a love for the beautiful game developed and now it’s on to the next chapter of the girls football journey.

Thanks to everyone whose supported us along the way. 🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋

It wasn’t to be their day as they lost out on a penalty shoot in the final.
Well done to Daisy and Scarlotte who were our girls of the tournament. 🦋
Wishing superstar player Chloe a speedy recovery after another awkward fall resulted in a damaged wrist - our thoughts are with her 🦋🦋

Unbelievable from the Butterflies who WON the Paringdon FC tournament today!
The girls were sensational throughout - not conceding a goal throughout the whole tournament and beating a strong Goffs Oak in the final!
Well done to all the girls - we’re all so proud of you - you totally deserved it!!
Well done to our girls of the tournament Rebecca and Beth - but in truth all the girls deserve so much credit, well done all of you!

Well done to all the Butterflies who had another friendly this morning against Barnet Panthers.
The girls were on top form and goals from Faye, Kayla, Daisy, Beth, Clementine and Lexie saw the girls to a comfortable victory - and one where they were challenged to play a variety of positions.
Well done to Beth who demonstrated composure before crossing, to really deliver some outstanding crosses and was our girl of the game 🦋

The Butterflies started their end of season friendlies programme with a tough game against Berkhamsted Titans this morning.
It was a close game and in the end a moment of fortune decided it for the Butterflies as a superb corner from Chloe deflected in.
Overall it was a deserved win, in difficult conditions, on a hard and bouncy pitch - the girls shape and organisation was fantastic in the second half.
Well done to Faye who was our girl of the game for working really hard, putting pressure on the defence and looking dangerous throughout!
Well done girls 🦋

Summer training started with a bang as the Butterflies were all on superb form at training tonight.
Well done to Kayla who was our trainer of the week 🦋

It was like Groundhog Day again for the Butterflies this morning after playing quite well - but ultimately falling short against Evergreen Rovers.
The girls seemed in control throughout and lead through a fantastic finish from Kayla after a magical through ball from Evie. Unfortunately many opportunities came and went, and in the end the girls suffered from a questionable penalty decision and then a goal from a corner a minute later - the game had turned on its head and the girls were unable to recover.
On the plus side there were some good performances and on another day it would have been a comfortable victory. Well done to Tilly who worked tirelessly and was our girl of the game. 🦋

The Butterflies were up against a tough opponent in Bedwell Rangers this morning - and despite a good performance, the girls lost narrowly.
It was a close game throughout with the Butterflies creating numerous half chances, but unfortunately they weren’t able to find the back of the net.
Well done to Daisy who was a girl of the game for a excellent all round performance and particularly some good through balls.
Well done to all the girls and we go again next week 🦋

On Saturday the Butterflies were back in action against Chorleywood in the Cup who we have met a few times in the past.

The girls started the match slow, which is very unusual and we’re soon 1 down - however we were soon back on level terms with a great strike from Kayla 👏🏼👏🏼

Unfortunately the girls didn’t play to their capabilities yesterday and a number of the girls being off their games and a few moments of sloppiness allowed Chorleywood the opportunity to take full advantage, which was a real shame.

In all fairness CW deserved the victory and we wish them good luck in the semi finals.

Well done to Bethrama for being awarded POTM🏆 for an all action display on the wing.

The Butterflies were back in action this morning against League Champions Meninas. First and foremost it was a really good game, both teams were trying to play in the right way and the game was played in the right spirit. It was a very even game throughout - with defences and midfielders on top, and in the end the only difference between the teams was an unfortunate own goal from Meninas following some nice work by Daisy.
Girl of the game went to Tilly who worked really hard throughout and held her position superbly 🦋

Photos from Abbey Youth Butterflies's post 23/02/2022

The girls were on superb form tonight at training - well done to all of them.
We worked on Ball Mastery, Keeping possession and switching play and all of the girls did amazingly.
Particular congratulations to Clementine who was our trainer of the week 🦋

Well done to the Butterflies who got the result they needed to advance to the quarter finals of the cup this morning.
Goals from Beth ⚽️⚽️ and Kayla ⚽️ were enough for the girls who didn’t really get out of 2nd gear in windy, cold conditions.
Lots of improvements needed from the girls if they’re to go any further but they were happy to see star player Chloe who came to see the girls after her injury 2 weeks ago.
Girl of the game went to Beth - whose first goal in particular was very special.

Particularly well done to Birthday girl Rebecca who was our trainer of the week. 🦋

The Butterflies continued their cup run today against Stevenage Starlets.
Whilst the first half was good, the girls didn’t play to their capabilities in the 2nd half, and a bit of sloppiness led to the game being closer than it should have been.
Well done to the goal scorers Beth ⚽️ and Kayla ⚽️⚽️, and to girl of the game Evie who worked hard throughout.
The girls will need to improve next week - but looking at the positives they played some nice football in the first half.
Well done girls 🦋

Football took 2nd place this morning as the Butterflies star player Chloe suffered an injury against Ruislip.
A huge thank you to everyone that helped out - Cathy, Lauren, Jo, Nicola, Sam and Russ - and also to Ruislip and their manager Lee Pottle, who were supportive and understanding throughout - they showed as well as being a class team they’re also class people as well.
Congratulations to Ruislip on their victory, and to Clementine on her Girl of the Game award - BUT most importantly we wish Chloe a speedy recovery and we look forward to seeing her bang in some special goals again very soon.

Well done to all the girls who were on it tonight from start to finish. We were working on 1 v 1’s tonight and passing and all of the girls were on top form!
Huge well done to our crazy little Butterfly Lexie, who as well as being a wine connoisseur is a smashing little footballer and thoroughly deserved to be our trainer of the week 🦋

The Butterflies were back in action this morning against St Albans in the cup, unfortunately they were without super star keeper Rebecca - but luckily Lexie, Faye, Iona and Evie stepped up and all did brilliantly.
Despite having most of the play the girls somehow went into half time at 0-0 after squandering lots of opportunities.
No need to panic though as the girl blitzed the second to win comfortably - with goals coming from Faye ⚽️⚽️⚽️, Chloe ⚽️⚽️ and Daisy.
Lots of work still for the girls ahead of next weeks huge game against Ruislip - but a solid performance nevertheless.
Huge congratulations to Kayla who became a big sister again this week and the girls honoured this with a Bebeto 94 celebration after the first goal - Kayla rounded off a great week with the ‘Girl of the Game’ award!! 🦋⚽️

Well done to all the Butterflies who, as always, trained brilliantly tonight. They have been working on touch, control and cushion passing and they are making progress every week.
Well done to Evie who returned from injury recently and is getting back into it well, she was superb tonight and deserved to be our trainer of the week 🦋

The Butterflies weren’t at their fluent best this morning - but still managed a good victory against a stubborn and organised Stevenage in the cup this morning.
In a game that they dominated - the Butterflies lacked a bit of composure in the final 3rd and had to wait till quite late in the day before they got the goals they needed, courtesy of Beth and Chloe (2).
Well done Tilly who was our girl of the game, she has played in a variety of different positions lately and done well in all of them - she is a selfless player who always puts the team first, she follows the instructions she is given and always tries her best.
Also well done to Daisy who was the opposition girl of the game.
St Albans next week in the cup again Butterflies 🦋

A huge well done to the Butterflies who (as always) trained superbly tonight.
The passing, moving and attitude of all the girls was spot on!
Well done to Rebecca - who was our trainer of the week. Rebecca does 2 hours training a week as she does GK training before the Butterflies - she always tries her best and the progress she’s made is unreal - she is the No.1 in the whole league! 🦋

Wow - what a game!!
All the spectators who witnessed the game this morning between the Butterflies and the mighty Ruislip Rangers will be talking about it for years to come!!
On the weekend that the FA Cup comes alive, this game was worthy of National television as both sets of girls gave it everything they had for their teams.
The Butterflies were 1-0 up at half time through a goal from Faye after great work by Kayla, but in typical Ruislip fashion, their class came through in the 2nd half and they were 2-1 up with 15 mins to go.
It looked like the Butterflies were going to come up short again until a fantastic goal from Beth, following great passes from Daisy and Faye.
Overall, neither team deserved to loose so a draw was ultimately a fair result!
I’m so proud of all the girls - they tried so hard and the progress that they’re all making is phenomenal, it is the highlight of my week every week watching them play!
Well done to Faye who was our girl of the game!
We look forward to hosting Ruislip again in a few weeks time, and if that game is half as good as as this one we’re in for another classic!!! 🦋

Great effort from all the girls tonight’s - it was great to see them all smiling and enjoying themselves, they were all superb!
Well done to Iona who was our trainer of the week 🦋

This morning the girls had a festive friendly against their good friends the Lions 🦁.
The commitment from both sets of players was absolutely fantastic - ditching the phones and game consoles for a couple of hours to play the game they all love!
Whilst the result didn’t go the girls way - the game served it’s purpose, allowing the girls to blow away the cobwebs and work on some new positional play.
The Butterflies can count themselves a little unlucky as the Lions GK made 2 great saves in the first half to keep the scoreline even, and despite going a goal down, for long periods the girls were putting the pressure on - only for the Lions to score with the last play of the game.
Fair play to the Lions who tried to play in the right way - despite the squidgy conditions. But the Butterflies will take great heart from this and go into the cup competition with high ambitions - the Lions boys will certainly know they’ve been in a game as all the girls worked really hard and did their best throughout.
Congratulations to Beth who was our girl of the game - and mums and dads, sorry about the muddy kits!!
Happy New Year to everyone from all the Butterflies 🦋

What an experience at Waltham Abbey FC for the Butterflies 🦋 today, as they and their good friends the Rhinos 🦏 were mascots for the big game today’s again FC Romania!

Thank you so much to everyone at WAFC for giving the young players the opportunity to have that match day experience - all the players and coaches were so welcoming to the Butterflies and made them feel so special.

Thanks again - and congratulations to the players on a fantastic 3-1 victory!! 🦋🦋
