Today marks 20 years in my healthcare eraš I got started as a nursing station technician 8 months before graduating and took the plunge as a new grad into the pediatric intensive care unit. It was a HUGE learning curve for me, and I can honestly say it took 18 months before I drove into work feeling like āIāve got this.ā Being a nurseā¦ nobody really prepares you for what youāll actually endure, see, fix and become. Iāve done CPR and zipped up body bags on more children than I can remember. Iāve held mothers as they have received devastating news and been a primary nurse for months taking on a āmotherā role. But Iāve also seen true miracles, children thrive from being so sick we didnāt know if they would make it. Iāve been there for baptisms and honors walks, Iāve witness resiliency in the highest form. This place changed me. It made me a better mom at home. Gave me a perspective on life that one may or may not want to have. Helped me grow in my profession, into a professional, into a charge nurse. The friends that have come and gone - when you are in this critical environment the bond you develop with colleagues is so special and those friendships are so dear to me. I truly work with the BEST of the best. Iām forever thankful + grateful for these 20 years. Onto the nextā¦š«¶š»
