Nothing beats our sport on a glorious sunny day ☀️

However, please be careful if you're thinking of heading out in a kayak. Even on a warm day, canal water can be cold enough to cause cold water shock 🥶. This is a natural reaction, but it can be dangerous if you don't know what to do.

If you fall in:
🛑 Don't panic
⭐ Lie back and spread your arms and legs like a starfish
💨 Float and breathe slowly until the shock passes

All of our sessions are coach-led by our wonderful team. They are trained to respond quickly and safely assist any paddlers who may fall into the water.

🚣 Scottish Sprint Championships 2026 🚣

What a weekend for our team at Strathclyde Park as we took on the Scottish Sprint Championships!

Months of hard work, early mornings, challenging training sessions, and unwavering commitment all came together in an incredible display of racing across the weekend. Our athletes represented the club with determination, resilience, and team spirit, producing some outstanding performances on the water.

We are delighted to celebrate an amazing medal haul:

🥇 23 Scottish Championship Titles
🥈 17 Silver Medals
🥉 24 Bronze Medals

That's an incredible 64 medals won across the championships!

Beyond the medals, it was fantastic to see so many personal best performances, close races, and athletes supporting one another throughout the event. Every competitor played their part in making this such a successful championship for the club.

A huge thank you goes to our coaches, volunteers, officials, parents, and supporters who continue to give their time and energy to help our athletes achieve their goals. Your dedication behind the scenes makes weekends like this possible.

Congratulations to every athlete who raced. We are immensely proud of everything you have achieved and the way you represented the club.

Medal Monday 🏅

Yesterday, 27 GKC athletes travelled to the Kirkcaldy Canoe Club Regatta. It's always one of our favourite events of the season, providing a fantastic opportunity for both younger and more experienced paddlers to gain valuable race experience and put their training into practice.

There were some excellent performances across the team, with plenty of medals and personal achievements to celebrate.

Attention now turns to the Scottish Sprint Championships this Saturday, and the team is looking forward to another exciting weekend of racing.

Sport has the power to connect people from different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. Through friendship, the game becomes bigger than competition.

09/06/2026

Sport gives young people more than just fitness — it builds confidence, teamwork, discipline, resilience, friendships, and a sense of belonging. It teaches respect, leadership, and how to handle both success and setbacks, while supporting mental wellbeing and creating positive opportunities for the future.

Hannah makes HISTORY for Glasgow Kayak Club 💜

We are over the moon to share that Hannah has been selected to represent Great Britain at the Junior European Championships in Szeged, Hungary, at the end of July.

Hannah will be racing in the C2 event alongside Bella from Richmond.

This will be Hannah's sixth time representing Great Britain, but her first as a canoe athlete. Just one year ago, she made the switch from kayak to canoe—a huge transition in our sport.

Through hard work, dedication, and determination, Hannah has embraced the challenge and earned her place on the team.

As a club, we couldn't be prouder of everything Hannah has achieved. We will all be cheering her on as she takes on the best junior athletes in Europe at the end of July.

Congratulations, Hannah, and best of luck in Hungary!

💜 National Volunteer Week

This week, we proudly celebrate the incredible volunteers who make our club what it is today.

Behind every training session, event, race, and achievement is a team of dedicated people giving their time, energy, and support to help our club thrive. From coaching and mentoring athletes to organising events, fundraising, administration, and all the unseen work behind the scenes — every contribution matters.

Our volunteers are the heart of the club. Your passion, commitment, and willingness to help create opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to grow, compete, and enjoy being part of our amazing community.

The countless hours you give, often quietly and without recognition, never go unnoticed. The club simply would not function without you.

To every volunteer — thank you for your hard work, dedication, encouragement, and support. You make a difference every single week, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do 💜👏

Day 2 at the National Sprint Regatta complete! 🏅

A cooler start to the day, but our Scottish paddlers brought the heat on the water.

Fantastic performances across the board, with our younger paddlers stepping up to make finals and take on much older competitors.

Proud of the effort, determination, and team spirit shown throughout the day, with everyone cheering each other on from start to finish.

Now it's time for the journey back to Glasgow. Well done, team! 💜
