Clarification on Sun Star Cebu Report

This is to address the report published by Sun Star Cebu on December 29, 2024 written by John Paul Seblos, which erroneously claimed that Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros was absent during the approval of the 2025 Budget Ordinance.

To clarify, Vice Mayor Donaldo Hontiveros did not participate in the final deliberation and approval of the 2025 Budget Ordinance during the Special Session held on December 27, 2024 because he was serving as the Acting Mayor of Cebu City at that time. Mayor Garcia was on official leave and out of the country, thereby delegating the responsibilities of the Office of the Mayor to Vice Mayor Hontiveros as mandated by law.

However, Acting Mayor Hontiveros was present in the Session Hall to observe the proceedings and to show his full support for the approval of the said 2025 Budget Ordinance. To reiterate, he was not absent contrary to what was reported by the Sun Star New Cebu.

We trust that this clarification will put the matter in proper perspective and encourage everyone to verify information before publication to avoid misleading the public.
