Muay Thai is the national sport and cultural martial art of Thailand. It was developed several hundreds of years ago as a form of close-combat that utilizes the entire body as a weapon. The Muay Thai Society focuses on giving students affordable access to sports and expert training in martial arts.

🌟 If you’re a gal on campus looking to learn self-defence, this is the PERFECT opportunity! 💫
EUMT Women’s Captains .watkins will be running a self-defence session on the 28th Feb! Tickets are £5 - link in story/bio - and half of all proceeds will be going to Academics Against Assault, a campaign who conduct research and active initiatives to reduce gender-based violence on campus!
They will be covering a range of techniques from striking to getting out of wrist grabs. Simple but effective movements to help build confidence in a self-defence situation. All moves are optional so feel free to sit out if you don’t feel comfortable taking part!

Gather your crewmates because this week is our treasure hunt social! Dress in pirate attire and meet us outside John Lewis at 8pm SHARP.
You then will be split into groups led by committee, and given tasks to complete across town.
The Treasure will be revealed and given out at Rumours at 10:30pm, see you then!

- RANGE: Practise managing different distances: whether firing from short range or maximising the length of your strikes, being able to see which is appropriate for whatever situation is key.
- RHYTHM: Break the beat. Instead of 1-2-3, leave an awkward beat 1… 2-3. Try doubling up on strikes to break the expected left-right-left rhythm too!
- FEINTS: Sell the lie! Work on those critical micro movements, directing your eyes to where you feint, and most importantly being able to USE the feint effectively.
- COMBOS AND SINGLES: Practise setting up combinations with singles. Or practise being unpredictable by mixing up the number of strikes you throw.
- ALL 8 LIMBS: Each shin, knee, elbow and fist has a load of potential techniques with it. Pad work is a great opportunity to smoothly implement each limb and sharpen the techniques you feel less comfortable with.
