Our friend Tammy Brown fell violently ill last August and was diagnosed with a rare condition called Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

A bit about the condition - Guillain Barre Syndrome put simply is the immune system attacking the nervous system. It can affect people quite differently with varying symptoms and recovery can take six months to two years or more. This condition affects 2-8 people in every 100 000 annually in Australia. It is indiscriminate - it can strike anyone of any age at any time.

As most of you know, Tammy was beginning her career in arboriculture. She was enrolled in her certificate III at TAFE and working for a local tree company, more recently she had begun climbing, even entering her first competition last May.

Now her world looks very different.

Tammy has lost the normal use of her body in particular her hands and legs, she struggles to perform daily activities. Tammy's rehabilitation consists of learning to walk normally again and regaining the use of her hands. She has to relearn simple tasks that we just take for granted, such as writing her signature and typing on a keyboard.

Her prognosis is unclear. As you can imagine, this is a difficult time for her and her family and we are asking for our powerful tree community to group together and support a friend and fellow arborist through a tough time.
