TuksBaja is a team of undergraduate engineering students from the University of Pretoria that participates in the Baja SAE competition.

The Baja SAE competition is an intercollegiate competition that attract teams from all over the world. Teams design, manufacture, and maintain Baja vehicles to compete in dynamic events like acceleration, sled-pull, manoeuvrability, rock crawl, hill climb, and endurance. The ultimate goal of the competition is to improve engineering students’ skills. Team members are better prepared for industry by being exposed to real-world problems, practicing project management, and learning how to find a balance between the demands of everyday life and passion driven projects. Learning Beyond the Track 🏁🔧

This weekend, the TuksBaja team had an amazing time at Auto Excellence, sharing practical automotive knowledge and connecting with fellow car enthusiasts! 🚗💨

We showed and talked about the basics every driver should know, including how to:

🔧 Change a tyre
🛞 Plug a tyre
🛢️ Check and change your engine oil — and know when it’s due
💧 Understand water & coolant in your car
🛑 Check brake fluid and know when to change it
🚙 Safely tow a trailer
🔋 Jump-start a car

It was a great opportunity to share our knowledge, learn from others, and show that engineering goes beyond the classroom. 🧑🏽‍🔧⚙️

Our team had an incredible time at Cars in the Park this past Sunday! 🚗💨

It was a pleasure showcasing Kevin, our iconic pink Baja car, alongside Car X, while connecting with fellow motorsport enthusiasts, alumni, supporters, and the wider automotive community.

Today we had the privilege of hosting one of our TuksBaja alumni, who shared the journey behind his final-year engineering project: converting a Baja car from petrol to fully electric. ⚡🏎️

It was an insightful session that gave our team a closer look at the engineering challenges, innovation, and future of off-road mobility. A huge thank you for sharing your knowledge and inspiring the next generation of Baja engineers!
