Dakar 2026 will mark Taekwondo’s fourth consecutive appearance at the YOG, following the most recent edition in Buenos Aires in 2018. World Taekwondo is expected to engage with the IOC in the coming months regarding the detailed event programme, including the competition format, competition schedule and athlete quota.

The 2026 event will mark the YOG’s first appearance in Africa, running from from Oct. 31 to Nov. 13.

Poom in Taekwondo is effectively a transitional or intermediate rank for students transitioning from junior color belt grades to adult degrees. For example, if a Taekwondo student attains Black Belt but is 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟱, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸.
The Poom taekwondo belt means that a student has fulfilled both academic and competence standards but does not exhibit the same degree of self-defense capacity as an adult. Being given a Poom belt before the age of 15 is an achievement!. 🟥⬛
