Ardley United FC

Our Dev team host Aston Clinton FC Reserves this weekend in our first ever competitive home fixture.

We would love to see as many people at the Nolan Oils ground as we can and will be serving hot food throughout the game courtesy of the excellent The Blue Texel. The burgers are excellent, trust me!

We will also be celebrating the renaming of the bar to the Mandy Reed Lounge, after Mandy sadly and unexpectedly passed away recently aged 54 after volunteering for the club for 15 years. Her family are still very much involved with the club and would love to welcome you to the club.

The will be a minutes applause before the game to commemorate her life and we would love to see as many locals down as we can.

Entry will be £2 at the gate and under 16s go free.

Quality from the boys last night 💙🔵💙

Result!

Holmer Green First 0-0 Aston Sports FT
11-12 PEN

Aston Sports side are through to the next round of the Bluefin sports challenge cup after a dramatic penalty shoot out!

A game under the lights under wet conditions against a Hellenic premier league team is always something to look forward to!
The boys knew it would be a tough fixture and going into the game looking like the underdogs, although Aston have started the season well in the league with 2 out of 3 wins we had nothing to lose!

With 3 games this week, we saw a slightly changed line up from the weekend with Archie, Titus and Tomlin slotting into the side for their first starts of the season.

The game started well with both sides keen to make a statement, Aston from the start defended well and pushed off some early efforts from Holmer green and began to make chances of their own. In fact it was Aston who controlled the majority of the first half with Brad, Little and Belly at the back defending and opening the game up quickly.
Jolly had some early chances including a goal ruled out due to questionable foul in the build up.He had the best of the chances with the Holmer keeper making a decent save in a one on one situation.
As the game went on the rain came down but the quality of football played by Aston was some of the best we have seen for a while. Aston were hungry and had a couple chances including one cleared off the line from a corner.
Kris grieg was fairly quite in the first half having to only make two saves from long distance strikes.
As the second half started , Holmer stepped up and pushed forward but Aston defended well from the front. Jolly Titus and Stroud kept winning every 50/50 whilst Archie and winter dealt with any threat in the middle and opened the game up for Mullen and Tomlin.
The introduction of Bonham and Harper gave us some fresh legs and later brownie down the wing. Brad made some vital well time challenges JT like and earned a Man of the match performance.
Both sides had chances to nick it towards the end of the 90 but after a well fought battle the game finished 0-0 and moved on to pens!

Now I don’t have much to say other than of the 30 pens taken during the shoot out(yes 30!)
24 found the net which all of them were wonderfully taken.
Aston had 4 separate chances to win it but missed the vital chances until the very end. Kudos to everyone who stepped up to take one under the pressure which paid off! There may be one or two discrepancies about the list below Holmer provided but none the less we will take the well deserved win as we storm into the next round!

Probably one of the best Aston Sports performances in the last few seasons considering they at the majority of the game outplayed the Premier league side Holmer in there own backyard.
Couldn’t fault any of the lads tonight who were all superb and a special mention to Kris who saved a couple of pens during the shootout.

We look forward To more Cup action this weekend at home as we host Watlington Town in Hellenic Chairman’s challenge Cup.
