Adventures with Vagari

It has been a minute… we have been busy launching a chartering service out of Mackinac Island. But that doesn’t mean the adventures have completely stopped. Both boats (charter boat, Stampede, and Vagari) travel nearly the full length of Lake Michigan twice a year. We are hoping to post more stories from those trips soon.

Part of our adventures is figuring out my out the best ways to work in the boat. Christy still works a full-time job (sometimes two). Creating functional work space while not negatively impacting the other functions of the boat is challenging. We don’t have a nav station on Vagari anymore (it wasn’t functional anyway). This year we are trying something new. This workstation is also the salon table. It folds closed at the end of the work day. We are testing a cheap version we purchased online and making notes so we can make a permanent version over the winter.

We’ll post more later about the features, limitations, and challenges along will how we are hoping to make it better. What are your ideas based on the image?

The off-season means getting together for Sailors’ Christmas and doing crafts! We painted ornaments and now we need to know which one everyone likes the best. Vote for your favorite ornament! We will tell you who the winner is tomorrow. 🎄⛵️

While working on a project, we reached out to some of the prior crew and passengers of Vagari. This resulted in a list of phrases that have been frequently said aboard. Here are some of them:

"Bouy selfie!"

"Maybe I should put on a life jacket."

"You don't get to fly the pirate flag until you earn it."

"Chips? Sure, I'll have some chips!!" (While a poor first timer is fighting seasickness. - Guys' trip.)

"It's called 'Adventures with Vagari' not 'boring lazy days with Vagari'."

It’s unseasonably warm which has us thinking about getting back in the water. Vagari is still snug as a bug wrapped up at Snug Harbor. Think warm thoughts!!!

We made it. The end of the day was opposite the beginning, hence the 03:30 arrival. 3 knots of boat speed in 5 knots of wind. Successful adventure. There’s a reason we call it Adventures with Vagari and not Boring Times with Vagari!!!

Oh man. We are still on the way. Waves have been 6-8 with occasional bigger. Winds are 20 knots plus on the nose (from the front). We will make it but it has been a slog. Many hours left tonight yet.
