You may have noticed an increase in vehicular traffic through the village lately. Fortunately, the pond is off the main drag and so it is still nice and tranquil.
We believe that the reason for the extra conjestion is due to some ongoing roadworks on the A483, the bit that bypasses Gresford.
Those of us that are old enough, will remember what life was like in the village (specifically the main road) and how busy it was. Some businesses were naturally worried about the potential loss of passsing trade when it opened. For many residents though the bypass was a welcome relief.
Fast forward to the present day and the recent upturn in traffic is taking some getting used to. So much so that an unusual sign has appeared at the Gresford Roundabout turnoff. It reads, "NO A483 TRAFFIC"
Puzzled as to its meaning we asked around the village and it seems that the sign is an attempt to dissuade bypass users from driving through the village. Apparently, local man Mr Charles has been heard muttering, "Rat run" and some of the other locals suspect that he is behind the sign. We managed to speak to him and ask about this but he flatly denied it. When pressed about his attitude to the extra traffic he started to get flustered and then said, "I like the extra cars, it reminds me of the good old days." Before informing us that, "The extra traffic is becasuse of the new chippy."
