A special acknowledgement to our sponsors who so generously offered to support the 2022 Bass Strait Challenge, thank you and we look forward to continuing our association in the future.

Hi everyone,

We are sure you are already aware the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to impact community and sporting events as the months go by.

This morning our club met to discuss the safety and options for competitors who have so generously made the decision to come to the North West Coast of Tasmania to compete in our signature event the “Bass Strait Challenge”.

We have been attempting to meet the ongoing challenges Covid is presenting to see this event go ahead at the scheduled time in March 2022 however with the ongoing uncertainty of flight cancellations, difficulty dealing with local councils for permits and licenses and issues with personnel for water safety along with the concern for paddler and member safety we have been forced to make the difficult decision to postpone the Bass Strait Challenge until Saturday 11 March, 2023.

Whilst this is devastating for us and disappointing for those who wished to compete, we hope you will understand that the decision had to be made for the safety of all concerned.

We would like to thank everyone for your understanding, Southern Zone for your support for our event, Melbourne Outrigger Club for your generosity in offering loan craft for the race and all clubs and competitors who put up their hand to attend this event.

Finally, to our sponsors who so generously offered to support the Bass Strait Challenge, thank you and we look forward to continuing our association in the future.
