This Saturday, 1st August, we take time out to thank everyone who has umpired even one match during our Winter Season. We are truly grateful that you have all stepped up and taken a whistle to officiate our competition games. Whether you are 13, 80 or somewhere in between, please remember that you are important to us and we sincerely appreciate your time and commitment. Your resilience throughout the season has been incredible. Thanks

SAUCNA is holding its Beginner umpire clinic soon. Each session runs for 2.5 hours in which rules of netball are discussed as well as practical umpire activities, so please bring your own whistle.

TACTICAL VS INJURY TIME OUTS

Did you know that there are 2 kinds of time outs that can be called during a game?

Illness/injury time:
- can be called AT ANY point during the game
- the injured/ill player MUST leave the court
- players have 30 seconds for the player concerned to leave the court and for any position changes to occur
- either team is permitted to make changes, so long as it happens within the 30 second injury time

Tactical time out:
- can only be called IMMEDIATELY after a goal (ie. if the ball is already on its way back to the centre, it’s too late)
- can be called by any player on the court and can be done by approaching either umpire
- the player is not required to leave the court and the substitution can involve players changing positions either on the court or with a player on the bench
- either team is permitted to make changes, so long as the change is made quickly and does not cause too much disruption to the flow of the game
- an umpire MAY DECLINE a request for a tactical substitution if they deem it to be frivolous or if they deem it to be too close to the end of the quarter

All umpires for matches on 12th April - please note time changes due to hot weather conditions forecast for tomorrow

Due to the high temperature forecast for Saturday 12th April there will be a change to the playing conditions for ALL matches played on that day.
11/u to Open - 12 minute quarters
8/u and 9/u - 10 minute quarters
Intervals for all games will be 4 mins (1/4 and 3/4 time) and 6 mins (1/2 time)
Please ensure all players, coaches, timekeepers and umpires are aware of these changes and make sure you hydrate and apply sunscreen. The health and welfare of all our participants is paramount.

With only a few hours until the Winter Season kicks off for the majority of teams, here is a reminder that ALL GAMES are individually timed.

Both teams must supply a timer, the home team to time 4x15 minute quarters and the visiting team to time the breaks (3/5/3 minutes).

As per the SAUCNA playing conditions, the home team timer must follow the umpire with 10 seconds of play left in each quarter and advise when time is concluded. The timer should NOT speak to the umpire whilst play is in progress except to say “TIME” at the end of the quarter.

The visiting timer must advise umpires when there are 30 seconds remaining of each break. The visiting timer is also responsible for timing any 2-minute suspension period or 4-minute ordering off awarded to a player as per World Netball Rules of Netball 2024, Rule 5.
