MUSAC Easter dive trip 2nd to 9th of April 2022 Isle of Mull, Scotland.

Ahoy MUSAC!

It's the time of year when we get our Easter trip underway. For our new members, this is our biggest trip of the year and is open to all levels of divers. It’s also an ideal opportunity for our new trainees and PADI crossovers to get some UK sea diving experience.

Turning it into somewhat of a tradition, we're heading up to the beautiful Isle of Mull in the Hebrides once more. It's a popular choice with MUSAC with many of our members going up several times. Not only is it a stunning part of the world, it also has some of the best diving the UK has to offer, catering for those who love wrecks and the squishy stuff that grows on them!

The trip this year will be 2nd to 9th of April 2022, coinciding with the start of the Easter holiday.

Our plan will be:
Leave early on the 2nd of April and head up in a convoy of vehicles, returning the evening of the 9th of April. The plan is for there to be 18 divers on the trip.
It will be shore diving for the first two days, which will allow everyone to get comfortable and have a good shake down. This will be followed by 4 days of boat diving which will be a mixture of wreck and scenic dives.

The plan will be for the club to use a RHIB (6 person boat) as well as a chartered hard boat (holding 12) with the amazing Malcolm. Malcolm is an extremely experienced and local skipper whom we have used for many years and knows the Sound of Mull like the back of his hand.

As per previous years we'll be staying on the island at Salen Pier (http://www.salenpier.co.uk/index.htm), which is a fantastic little spot with diving on the doorstep. In fact we will be diving from there for the first two days, so it can’t get easier than that!

Also, a relatively new feature; the accommodation also now has an outdoor hot tub (with obvious sensible Covid-aware use). So if you fancy enjoying the bubbles, and sipping a post dive beer under the Scottish stars then this is the trip for you.

At the moment for this trip you need to be both a MUSAC and BSAC member, be already qualified to dive and have the Diving Officer be happy you’re safe to conduct sea dives. There should be plenty of opportunities to practice before the trip, so fear not!
Also some days the chartered boat might be able to pick us up from the accommodation. Too easy!

Cost
The trip is estimated to cost £470. This includes transport, accommodation, food and diving, pretty much everything you'll need apart from any gear rental from the club or drysuit rental .

Pretty great value for a week's worth of diving in Scotland! That said, it is just an estimate at this point, and even with the experience of many Easter trips and the best crystal ball in the world it's hard to exactly predict everything, but it's unlikely to be much different from this.

Covid-19
Of course Covid-19 continues to be an issue when planning anything, and there is no way of knowing what the situation will be come April 2022. The main priority on any dive trip is to make sure it’s conducted safely, and that we comply with not only BSAC guidance but also that from the SU and government too. Of course a big dive trip like this presents a monetary investment, which during these uncertain times can cause some understandable concerns. Thankfully the majority of costs on the trip (such as transport, boat rental, kit, food etc.) are easily cancelled short notice and only come into effect if the trip goes ahead. The main thing at risk would be the accommodation deposit and possibly ferry bookings depending how late in the day the situation changes. But if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to ask.

This is a great trip and a fantastic chance to get some sea dives under your belt. If you need any convincing or have any questions please join us at our social this Thursday 9th December, 8pm at The Font on Oxford Road and chat to some of the folks who have been before. It's also a great way to get to know the people in the club.

Info we will need to start with:
Name
Email address
Diving qualification
Are you a driver?
Do you own a vehicle, if so are you happy to use it on the trip?

To get a spot you'll need to pay a £100 deposit, due ideally in December. To help break it up you can split the rest into 2 lots of £185, due January and start of March respectively. Your place isn’t guaranteed until you get your deposit in!
If you fancy coming along, message the page and we’ll set up a group where we can sort out logistics without bombarding the main page, or just as easily let us know at one of the training sessions or socials.

Huzzah for hot tubs, haggis, shipwrecks and adventure!
All the best and hope to see you soon.
