The Green Wave take 3 games from Georgia Tech this weekend including two 10-inning walk off wins.
Game 1:
Georgia Tech started the weekend's scoring on an RBI double in the top of the second inning. After that, however, Green Wave starter Matt Kogan gave up no more ground, going 8 innings while striking out 9 and walking 3. The green wave were able to pull even with Georgia Tech in the bottom of the 3rd inning on an RBI single by Blair deBart scoring fellow middle infielder Dan Capone. Freshman Jake Vollen picked up where Kogan left off in the 9th and 10th inning, keeping the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard long enough for the Green Wave to walk off on a Joe Bonner ground ball to short. Final score: 2-1 Tulane
Game 2:
Scoring came much easier for both teams in game 2, with a final score of 11-6 in favor of the Green Wave. Even with an early two run lead in the first inning, walks and hit batsmen plagued Georgia Tech's starter from the get go. He allowed 8 runs on 6 K's 9 walks and 5 hits. Eli Otting, Ben Froman, and Jonathan Macht platooned for the victory.
Game 3:
Once again, Georgia Tech was able to take an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Green Wave did not wait around to start chipping away. In the bottom of the first, Dan Iavarone was plated on a groundout by Blair deBart to cut the lead in half and get Tulane on the board. Tulane knotted the game at 2 in the second on a sac fly to right field by Jeremy Gordon, scoring Ari Janoff. The Yellow Jackets were able to put two more runs on the board with one in the 4th and 9th. With Tulane's back against the wall, Dan Capone was able to draw a lead off walk in the bottom of the 9th to set up a huge two-run game tying double to center by Eli Otting. In the bottom of the 10th, Ian Sutton led off with a walk. Gray Halliburton and Ari Janoff followed with two successful bunt singles to load the bases with nobody out. Tulane head coach Dan Hunoway made the gutsy decision to run the su***de squeeze with Capone at the plate. In a miraculous display of bunting ability, Capone was able to lay down the game winning bunt on a pitch that bounced in the dirt in front of the plate. Final score: 5-4 Tulane.
