Beach Hockey a new way of life.
A brief history of Beach Hockey. Beach Hockey was developed and started in 2004 by Floris Jan Bovelander, an ex Dutch Field hockey International. In a few years Beach Hockey grew into a serious developing sport. In 2008 and 2009 Beach Hockey Europe organized the European Beach Hockey Trophy in Scheveningen, the Netherlands. Besides teams from Holland, teams from Germany, Belgium and Spain joined this Trophy.
Beach Hockey is a battle in loose sand between 2 teams with 5 players on each side and is played in an inflatable field, sized 20 x 30 meters. Instead of the original hockey ball it is played with a small leather ball ( Ø 20cm) and a specially developed hockey stick.
There is no special gear for goalkeepers or field players. Most of the time competitors play the Beach Hockey ball through the air, passing as well as air dribbling. There are many scoring opportunities because goals can be scored from anywhere on the field of play. Beach Hockey is a very spectacular and intensive game.
Events are held where players can enjoy enjoy the outdoors, swim in the ocean, listen to live music, lounge & relax, barbecue, side events and beach party's, which makes Beach Hockey a complete beach experience.
Most recently the World Beach Hockey Federation was established with headquarters in Lausanne Switzerland. Over forty countries have already come on board as this amazing new sport draws world wide attention.
