Scottish Champion 🏴🥇
It’s taken a few years but I can add the Senior Cross Country title to the Junior and U23 ones I won nearly 2 decades ago. In all honestly, a shocking race from me with 3 punctures, but stoked to be able to take the win.

The fight for the stripes only comes once a year. National Marathon Champs write up online now.
British MTB Marathon Championships, Deadwater 100, Keilder If you put me on the spot I'd tell you that my ambition is to be the best mountain bike marathon rider I can be. It's the discipline I enjoy the most and the courses tick all the boxes of why I enjoy riding and racing a bike. Marathon racing is the perfect combination of XC, gravel and road racing,....

While racing at the Enduro World Series in the Tweed Valley I got the opportunity to sit down and chat with Chris Hall of The Downtime Podcast. We chatted about my career so far as a bike rider and coach, as well as touching on some of the more difficult times I've experienced.

For the first time in my life I can call myself a professional bike rider. It’s been one hell of a ride to make it here and I’ve experienced a lot of highs and lows during my career as a mountain biker.
It’s been a hustle, and I feel like with every win there has been almost as many losses. I’ve always done my best to learn, adapt and bounce back from failure. I’ve tried to be creative and grab opportunities when they come. Striving to ‘make it’ has been hard at times and I’ve hit so many dead ends. I’ve quit, taken long breaks and reinvented myself. With the help of so many great people I’ve managed to forge a career in the sport that changed my life. Through coaching guiding, writing, commentating, running social media, creating content, working in events and of course competing.
The 2020 pandemic was a big turning point tor me. I gradually started to ride and train again, then successfully pitched to make a film about my West Highland Way record attempt. Since then I balanced my day job of coaching with my own training, competing, pitching concepts and producing content. I’m into the third year of my second comeback and I’ve reached the point where I can actually make a living from riding and racing my bike.
To have made it ‘pro’ for the first time at the age of 37 is surreal. This is all I’ve ever dreamt of since I was a teenager and I’m incredibly motivated. I may not be able to win the biggest races, but I can compete on the biggest stages. I want to fulfil my potential, perform in events, entertain through films we make, and hopefully inspire people to get on their bikes, enjoy the outdoors, feel the freedom, participate in events and set goals to work towards.
This year has already presented many challenges and opportunities. I want to make each day count and I’m remembering to enjoy every moment. I know how fortunate I am to finally be in this rare and privileged position. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this happen, offered me opportunities and supported me. I’m incredibly grateful.
