Bunyala Irrigation Scheme farmers’ leaders are celebrating a landmark victory, expressing profound gratitude to H.E. Amb. Ababu Namwamba,EGH, for his swift, firm, and decisive intervention in resolving long-standing challenges that had hindered their progress for years.

Through his timely and hands on leadership, Amb. Ababu has once again demonstrated exceptional commitment, strategic foresight, and a deep understanding of the struggles facing local farmers. His unwavering dedication to uplifting communities and delivering practical, people centered solutions continues to restore hope and transform livelihoods across the region.

Farmers across the Bunyala Irrigation Scheme-spanning Alego-Usonga and Bunyala Sub-Counties in Siaya and Busia Counties, are already witnessing tangible results. Key issues highlighted in their historic memorandum have been decisively addressed, including a significant reduction in the cost of water and the establishment of a new, farmer-responsive management regime. Remaining concerns, such as the rehabilitation of the collapsed infrastructure, are now receiving urgent, high-level government attention.

In just 19 days following the landmark consultative meeting held on March 18 within the Scheme, Amb. Ababu spearheaded an extraordinary chain of action, from formally petitioning the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, to engaging directly with the Principal Secretary for Irrigation, Ephantus Kimotho, and Irrigation Secretary Joel Tanui. His relentless follow-through ultimately secured the personal attention and intervention of His Excellency the President, ushering in a new era for the long-neglected Scheme.

This victory is not just a policy shift, it is a powerful testament to bold leadership, effective advocacy, and the impact of responsive governance. Amb. Ababu Namwamba has proven that true leadership is about action, results, and standing firmly with the people.

As a new dawn rises over Bunyala, those who long ignored the farmers’ plight are now left to reckon with the reality of change. The farmers have spoken, leadership has acted, and justice is being realized.
