Two Teams Declared Winners in WINDALCO-sponsored Cricket Competition
St. John’s Primary and Tulloch Primary were yesterday (July 6) declared winners in the WINDALCO-sponsored St. Catherine Cricket Association Under-13 Cricket Competition after inclement weather prevented the final match from being played.
Both teams shared the trophy at the closing ceremony held at the Ewarton Works Sports Club. Old Harbour Primary placed third after winning their match against Tulloch Primary earlier that day.
President of the St. Catherine Cricket Association Milholland Barker expressed thanks to WINDALCO for partnering with them for the second year in a row.
“By hosting this competition, we are fanning a flame of interest for youths to get involved in cricket; we are motivating them.”
Barker said that he is aiming to beef up participation in the competition for the coming year with WINDALCO’s continued partnership.
Managing Director of the bauxite company Leonid Stavitskiy echoed similar sentiments stating that it is the best investment the company could make as it is an investment in the future of cricket in Jamaica and most importantly, an investment in the country’s children.
Meanwhile Human Resources Director at WINDALCO Glendon Johnson said that this kind of programme has aided other players to go on to compete in national championships. He added that despite the economic hardships the company is facing, it remains committed to the development of youth from grassroots levels and is looking forward to more of this engagement.
