🏉 Celebrating Benalla football history | Football Celebration Round 🏉
Benalla Showgrounds will be the site of a historic celebration tomorrow (Saturday, April 18) when the of the Benalla and District Football League is at the centre of Football Celebration Round.

The Benalla Saints are inviting all past players and officials to join them as the game against Euroa Magpies Football Netball Club, with the celebrations starting at noon. Senior players will wear a special commemorative jumper recognising the incredible legacy of the league - including clubs and teams whose stories stretch back to the 1800s.
đź’ˇ Did you know?

The BDFL operated under various names from 1929 to 2009
Four Benalla teams competed over the years: Benalla All Blacks, Benalla Rovers, Benalla Seconds and Benalla Thirds
In one remarkable game in 1968, the Benalla All Blacks kicked 45.31 (301) against Devenish - with Gavin Cherry slotting 19 goals
The competition concluded in 2009 following VCFL policy changes requiring a minimum of six clubs

🎟️ Former district league past players receive FREE entry (with team registration on the day), and two of the commemorative jumpers will be raffled - one even signed and auctioned during the last quarter.
It’s a chance to reconnect, reminisce, and recognise the history that shaped football in our district. Spread the word, bring your stories, and be part of a very special day.

The past Players, Supporters, and Committee members pass on their deepest condolences to the family, loved ones and friends of past player Michael Fitzgerald.

It is with sadness that Racing Victoria (RV) and the Victorian Jockeys Association (VJA) acknowledge the passing of former jockey Michael Fitzgerald, aged 33.

Michael was apprenticed to his father, late Wangaratta trainer Allan Fitzgerald, from 2008-2011 and more recently worked for his brother John as a stablehand and trackwork rider.

Fitzgerald competed in over 500 races throughout his career as a jockey and rode winners in Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

RV and VJA extend their condolences to the Fitzgerald family on behalf of the Victorian racing industry on the news of Michael’s passing.

The Fitzgerald family would like to pass on their appreciation to everyone who has reached out and provided their love and support during this difficult time.

Vale.

Berriwillock’s old footy ground still hits you the moment you step onto it.
The last game here was back in 2015, but you can feel the years in the dust, the cheers in the breeze and all the pride that once packed these little towns on a Saturday arvo.

This was part of the old Berri–Culgoa story, later joining the Sea Lake–Nandaly Tigers.
Small towns change, clubs merge… but places like this hang on.
They stay with you.

Deepest sympathies to Hec's family, friends and loved ones.
