Like many small businesses, Subsonic started in my garage. I worked there every evening after my JOB for several years. Jp Rowan of Rip City Skate eventually convinced me to rent a space in the buildings basement and make my brand more legit. The historic 1926 building was originally the Steigerwald Dairy featuring a milk bottle incorporated into the architecture. My shop, appropriately, was in the bottom of the bottle. The windowless circular space was very interesting to work in. Lost in time. Jon Huey did a photo shoot in 2011 for a Wheelbase article. I cobbled together an ad for that issue which includes a picture of Chip Wood racing at Cathlamet Downhill Corral. More on him later. I also had part-time help from Nate King shown working on a sander. We didn't have a CNC so the molds were handbuilt and every board cut on a bandsaw and shaped with disc and drum sanders. A primitive but satisfying way to create a high quality skateboard!

I've been combing through old images and becoming nostalgic for Subsonic early years. So I will start posting some pics on Thursdays. Joshua Burt was the first team rider circa 2005. He exemplifies the "Skate Everything" ethos. From vert, park and street skating to DH, slalom and LDP (we called it push racing back then) Josh skates it all! He's shown here shredding his coffin shaped pro model, RIP 40, at Mt. Tabor. Thanks to Matthew Brush for the pics which I hacked into this composite image with limited Photoshop skills. Hey man, it was '05!

After a six year hiatus from Facebook, I’m back. Maybe. Testing the waters to see what’s up. I know our attention spans are short these days, but say hi if you remember me.

Meet the Crew,
Every deck that leaves our shop, is put through the finishing machines, and hand sanded by our wood worker Keenan.
Keenan graduated from the Seattle school of woodworking, and enjoys riding his longboard as much as he enjoys making them.

Nick Thayer has been test riding the fresh layup on what will be our new Shadow 37.
2021 is looking good 😎
