How often do you delay gratification?

It's one of the most adult things you can do.

Just because you won a huge deal doesn't mean you should blow the money on a nice trip.
Just because you got a new client doesn't mean you should "treat yoself" with a new bag.
Just because you got paid today doesn't mean you should spend it away.

Put those credit cards away and let's see how we can spend that cash on something to solve a bigger and more common problem in your business.

Grow smarter.
Grow quicker.
Win bigger.

A common occurrence among many of my clients is eventually the "money conversation".

They need more of it.

When this has come up, the solution has always tended to lean in one direction: tightening the belt.

Sure, reducing expenses is a solid and defendable way to get more cash.

My favorite way, though, is to increase your revenue.

Instead of lowering expenses, how can you make money?
Instead of cutting services, how about increasing retention?
Instead of spending less, how about hiring a VA to focus on admin so you can focus on lead gen?

Get the picture?

You can either cut expenses or raise revenue. Y’all, the answer is to RAISE REVENUE. Stop thinking about how to cut corners if there is an opportunity to get more sales. Serve more, grow faster, get MORE help (not less).

My CEO blew my mind with this: “I haven’t met a problem profit can’t solve.”

That really, REALLY hit me. Honestly, as I thought through the history of my company, the truth was that I often had a plan to solve my pain, but I didn’t have the funds to afford the solution.

I'm a proud papa.

When I was away for a full week due to being ill, my team had to drive the ship without me.

Some time has passed and I can now reflect back and see that my team had everything they needed to keep going without me.

All marketing was done.
The teams' needs were fulfilled.
The leads kept coming in.
The customers kept getting fulfilled.

It's true--how well you lead gives you the freedom to leave.

Now I'm ready to leave again--but on vacation this time!

It's summer, which means we're in PEAK vacation time.

But can you truly take time away? What I'm asking has to do with your ability to step away from the desk, without having to constantly check in on things.

Because one truth I know is, how well you lead gives you the freedom to leave.

If you've properly setup your business, your team and your clients should be able to handle your absence. If they can't, then you don't have a job that serves you.

It doesn't have to be this way.

As the sun dipped below the Jersey skyline, I found myself still at my desk.

I love evenings and nights. And, they're mine. All of this is because--I start my days late. I go to bed late and get up late. Exactly how I want it!

My days end with satisfaction, not exhaustion.

Your business should serve you just as much as it serves others.

I remember working with my first business coach and discussing with her the plights of owning and running a business.

It's hard!

Mostly, this had to do with the unknown. There was so much I didn't know.

One of my big unknowns? That businesses are there to serve you just as much as it is there to serve others. That was a HUGE one for me. I had never considered that.

One of my clients told me that they want ME as the staff. Mini-mes. Replicas of me.

So I had to ask myself, how could I foster my company so that it teaches my crew.....my way of seeing and doing things?

What I hadn't realized is just how impactful it is to understand that businesses are energetic replicas of their leaders. If your team, product, or service isn't performing how it should--guess where the source of that comes from?

I remember the early days of my staffing company. I felt like all of this "business stuff" was similar to trying to learn Japanese--it was SO foreign for me.

But then, it clicked.

My business began to feel more aligned the moment I realized that my business was a direct reflection of me—my energy, my passion, my vision.

Like a well-tuned orchestra follows its conductor, my business responded to my lead.

For the past week, I've been incredibly sick. I was home for an entire week, unable to get away.

It was not fun.

I preach that "how well you lead gives you the freedom to leave". While I meant that for vacation, I realize how true it is for sickness as well.

Because I had setup solid systems and teams in my business, I was able to be away from work all week and, well, here I am. I'm back and I'm honestly not finding glaring issues.

It's as if these principles really work! 😉
