The last 60 hours finally came to a stop that I can write this concluding post. The last days of November ended with work, meetings, basketball practices, games and travel. Finding my 30 minutes to myself just two more times for November wasn’t possible. I ended the month with 18 walks and I can be happy about that. That’s 18 more times out than if I didn’t set my challenge for myself. Not sure how December will go with all the hustle and bustle, but I’m sure I’ll figure it out. Thanks for encouraging me this month and helping to hold me accountable.

Day 18… Thankful for a good challenge, a good competition and the chance to get better. 2 walks left to go.

Day 17… I walked for 19 minutes today. It’s crazy how just 19 minutes to myself to walk, breath and think changes my whole attitude. There really is research about exercise and your attitude. I can’t quote it right now, but it’s out there. Thankful today for this mental mindset workout.

Day 16… There’s ice and snow on the ground and it’s just cold. So I went looking for an alternate route for my walks. It’s not much, but I figured out a way to get some steps in. I parked at the Midde School entrance and took a walk around the block outside (.68 miles). Then I went inside and walked the halls of the Elementary building. I walk at a pretty quick clip and found out it takes me 5 minutes to walk one loop of the entire building. So after a quick mile-ish workout inside (3 loops) I got my steps for the day. I’m thankful for my work and the awesome things we do each day for kids. I loved my break, but I know we have lessons to learn and memories to make in the next 4 weeks.

Day 15…. I’m getting closer to my goal. I do the math and there aren’t many days that I can spare now. So, halftime of the IA vs NE game and I’m on the treadmill at my Mom’s house. Thankful for our traditions and the time we’ve spent. We were able to spend the afternoon with Greg’s family yesterday and I greatly appreciate the uniqueness of both families.

Day 13… Lucky 13… I was able to get out early today and so glad I did. It was a beautiful morning to reflect and think. I’m thankful today for those that encourage me, for those that give me feedback and for those who help make me a better person. Some days are easier to make changes than other days, but over time every interaction helps me grow.

Day 11… after a fun night out with some friends I still was up early and took a long walk. I love morning walks especially as the sun has just started to come up and I watch the town wake up. The weather was cool, but not at all uncomfortable. Thankful for my small town and the simplicity it offers.

Day 9… it’s been a busy week. Greg was out of the country so I had double duties. (I told you this was going to be a hard month to meet this exercise goal 🤪). I am excited I got out for a short 3,000+ steps though. Today I’m thankful for good health and the energy to complete this week.

Day 8… it was a long day. And I definitely didn’t feel up for going nor did I have a lot of time to walk before I needed to get to the XC banquet. But, I did it! Today I am thankful for special people like Coach Mayer, Coach Lloyd and Coach Ruth. We are truly blessed with the best for our Clarinda Cross Country programs. Thank you for truly pouring your heart and soul into these kids. ❤️

Day 7: I woke up early to walk before work, but the cold 32 degrees just doesn’t appeal to me. I made time to walk after school and it was a sunny beautiful fall day. I am thankful today for the time I took and the reflections I made in my short 30 minutes.

Day 5: A cool Saturday morning walk before jumping in the car to take Sydni to play some basketball in Overland Park, Kansas. Thankful today for the many trips I’ve been able to take with my kids to watch them grow in their athletic and teamwork skills.

It’s only walk #4… I got it done though after dropping Syd off at basketball with CLS.
Tonight I thought a lot about the school bond issue. While I’m mad and sad it didn’t pass I do know we are supported by many. I’m grateful for those who believe in their school community of teachers, staff and students.

It’s a beautiful fall day. Get out and smell the fresh air. Thankful I took advantage of the extra hour and got my morning walk in to see the town wake up and begin its day.

Day 2 … Thankful for my sister. We live a few miles apart and work in the same building, but intentionally making time for conversation is important.
