RH100 RUNNERS NEEDING A LIFT ON RACE MORNING

Please comment below.

Runners with cars, please pick them up on your way to the start. Simple!

Please aim to arrange lifts between yourselves. If, by Sunday 6 September, you have failed to find transport to the start, please email us at [email protected] and I’ll show you the quickest way to walk there.

Just kidding. 😁

Thank you.

Ronnie

Entries close Friday 21st August 2026 Midnight - so last chance if you fancy it.

If you message me Saturday after entries close begging for a place, I will hunt you down and I will make an example of you. Ronnie. 😁

A fully marked ultra on nice underfoot, runnable scenic trails. The route heads into Sherwood Forest to take in Robin Hoods homeland before returning back to South Wheatley. A relatively flat run with mild undulations make it a 'fast' course.

***Volunteers Wanted*** for Robin Hood 100 Mile on 12th-13th September 2026. Sherwood Forest area - between Retford and Edwinstowe gives a rough reference to logistics. Normally an approx 8 hour shift on an aid station with others, nothing complicated 😅. Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered.

If you wish to help please leave a comment here or message me directly with your preference of Saturday day / Saturday night / Sunday - or flexible. Gets you free entry to 2028 if you want it. Thank you for your support on this race. Ronnie.

Perspective: On the trails...

There’s a quote attributed to Socrates that keeps coming to my mind lately:

“He who is not contented with what he has, would not be contented with what he would like to have.”

Trail running often lives in the space between gratitude and ambition. We want to run further and be faster - or even both together! There’s nothing wrong with improvement. The desire to grow is part of what draws many of us outdoors in the first place and it’s why I love my role as an ultra running coach - to support such improvement.

But sometimes we forget the quiet privilege of simply being able to run at all. Myself included.

In a world of endless comparison - and the tech to aid our misery, it’s tempting to turn every run into a means to an end to be better - and more like those ‘fast’ runners. A slow run can feel disappointing. A missed session can feel like failure. We end up constantly chasing a future version of ourselves that always seems just out of reach.

Yet I speak to stroke survivors regularly who would give anything to jog slowly or even walk on a trail again.

The loss of the simple freedom of movement is what hurts them. The rhythm of footsteps. The ability to head out the door under their own power, the independence.

That perspective is so easily lost and I’m thankful to my volunteering with the stroke association - to keep me in conversation with myself. I lose my way all the time to ambition, and often end up feeling down after many setbacks caused by my brain damage. Then I snap out of it again and become grateful for what I do have. It’s an endless cycle, it’s a tiring process and I’m not sure the conversation will ever end. But it’s vital that I have it for my peace.

By all means, train hard. Aim high. See what you are capable of. I’m with you. But don’t miss what is already here while constantly reaching for what is next or better.

Sometimes the greatest part of trail running is not how fast we move, but that we can move in nature at all.

Keep Roaming...

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to all the volunteers on Saturday at the Dukeries 30/40 mile.

There were just shy of 40 volunteers in total - and all that confirmed attended and performed their role - legends.

Most striking to me, was I had met almost every volunteer before - with the welcome addition of a few new names that I met during the event.

Things crop up and we plan for it - but I can’t tell you how reassuring it is to look at the volunteering overview and trust failing a real issue - people will show up.

On all ultras it’s the volunteers that ultimately contribute to the success of an event once the planning is done. It’s a tough game but a special one and I’m always honoured to be a small part of it.

We have some more to come about the event but for now once again - thank you to all the volunteers.
