It's almost time for Robot Ruckus at Maker Faire Orlando (Nov 4-5) and we need your help! We're looking for volunteers to serve as judges, pit runners, announcers, and more. No experience necessary - we'll show you the ropes! Volunteering is a great way to get involved and join the robot combat community. What’s a Rookie Ant?
Many folks have asked us, “What’s a Rookie Ant and who can compete in that class?” Good question, so let us clarify.

First and foremost, the intention of this class is to give new drivers, builders and teams a safe place to compete so they’ll want to come back! As a new builder, it really sucks getting destroyed on the first hit, so we’re trying to make some more competitive matches.

There are no definitive rules as to what classifies as a “rookie” ant, so we ask people respect the intent of the class, i.e. have a class where new builders can compete against other new builders to even the playing field. Ultimately it is up to the discretion of the event organizers as to who can compete in the class.

Still need some guidance? We got you covered. Here are some guidelines that might help you determine if you qualify for the Rookie Ant class:

- You or your team have competed in 2 or less events.
- You or your team have never podiumed in an insect weight event.
- You or your team never had previous robot building experience, either combat robots or otherwise.

Chances are, if you’re a rookie, you’ll know it. If you have any questions as to whether or not you’re a rookie ant, you’re probably NOT a rookie ant!

Armed with the knowledge of the intent of the Rookie Ant class and the above guidelines, hopefully it’s clear. Again, we want everyone, especially new builders, to have a good time. Thanks for being awesome and helping build a good time for all!!!!

HEY YOU BOTS!!!! Did you hear? This year at Robot Ruckus, we’re making room for MORE robot action by shrinking down our large arena. It was a tough decision but the 250lb robots have outgrown the strength of our arena to safely fight, shrinking the arena lets us focus on a better arena for the 12lb and 30lb classes. But don’t worry… we won’t let that space go to waste! We’ll be using it to add a SECOND arena for insect weight class robots! Ready to build your first robot but not sure where to start? Andrea from Team Witch Doctor on BattleBots will be hosting a THREE DAY Combat Robot Workshop July 5-7 at Moonlighter in South Florida! Registration is now open at the link below. Kids (ages 8+), teenagers, and adults are welcome! Only 20 spots available!

Andrea will walk you through each step of building your first combat robot, while you learn math, science, and engineering concepts you’ll need as a robot builder. The last day of the class will be a full Tournament with your new bot! The goal of this class is to prepare you to continue competing at local tournaments on your own. Come join us!

It's Robot Fighting Time! We excited to host a BattleBots finale viewing party in the Dr. Phillips CineDome at Orlando Science Center on May 25th!

As of 05/02, The Witch Doctor, Kraken, Gruff, and Sporkinok teams have confirmed attendance - Teams will be hosting a meet & greet before the show, and some teams will be bringing their robots.

Are you an Orlando Science Center member? Keep an eye out for an email from OSC explaining how to reserve your member tickets.

Tickets are limited and have sold out quickly for this event in the past, so get your tickets ASAP!
