Juno's first show in (3?!) years was the Waitemata Hunt's Derby course and she was very brave

Seriously how cute is Juno - the floor is lava ;) she was so lovely at the recent Cowboy Challenge North Auckland have a go day.

We joined a Lynley Bolt - Balance & Awareness clinic recently. It was awesome, bringing together feel, body awareness, vaquero style and horse(wo)manship in a blend of horse-centred exercises "this is physiotherapy we're doing here" and I met some brilliant people there too. It was really great being able to take Trinny one day and Juno the next and apply the ideas to two very different horses. Feeling super lucky to attend a trimming clinic with David Landreville, along with Juno, last weekend. Wow. What a human. We loved hosting the incredible Feather Light Horsemanship after her wonderful shows at Equifest - She was such a fun (and brave, of course) guest, and Trinny had great fun with her!

Connection 🙌🏼 7 Ways to Build Connection.

Demand-Free Time - Sit in the field, offer rubs, braid a tail, sing a song, find tasty snatches of grass to offer.

Be reliable - Horses love a calm predictable leader. Feed them at regular feeding times, lead them from the field the same way each time, stay calm in times if drama so you can be their centre in the storm.

Give love - Let your horse know they matter in whatever way works for you. Sweet talk, scratches, treats, long grooming sessions. They hear our heartbeat from 3 feet and know when it beats with love.

Share Trust & Decisions - Make riding a collaboration where the horse has a say. Watch for when they want to trot, slow, canter, take a certain trail and - if its ok with you and safe - let them pick some of the things you do!

Take time - the little things matter. When you pick a hoof, lower it kindly rather than dropping it with a thud. Offer the halter and let them tilt their nose to it, wait for them to open their mouth before you drop the bit when unbridling, do the girth up in 2-3 stages. All these micro delays show respect and let the horse accept your ideas intentionally.

Be Fair - Don't push your horse above their fear threshold, but build confidence by asking them to challenge themselves. Ask them to give what you need, but not more than they can safely offer. Provide for their needs (friends, forage, freedom, farrier, well fitting tack, decent feed) before asking they deliver on your desires.

Have Fun!!!! - Horses want experiences full of adventure and joy too! They are curious thoughtful creatures who deserve a life full of great experiences.

Soft coat, strong back, sweet mind 🖤⚔ Riding this horse I often forget we are two creatures as my thoughts are so clear to her. I think the beginning of an excited urge to gallop and she steps off, surging forward. I sit back and exhale and she slows.
In this photo she's telling me the pool at the side of the cave entrance is spooky, and feeling my belief that it is no threat, and my steady heartbeat. Her ears are so expressive.

You can see her left ear saying "that pool is SCARY' and her right ear saying "but the human says its okay..."

Love this photo by of my sweet Trijntje… from the moment I met her sire, stallion Trienko, son of , I had high hopes for my little foal.
When I helped her mumma deliver her, she stood within 8 minutes, and wasted no time in making her personality known.
I can’t get enough of her fun, brave, snuggly character!

Black dragon flying! 🐉 is pretty incredible at horse photography! We had a teeny window of pale sunlight among all the heavy rain and she caught these… and about 40 more!! I’m honestly not sure how she did that but Im super grateful to have so many beautiful pics of my lovely Juno… 🖤

Autumn’s golden light is here with those last precious days of fresh mornings, wide blue skies and new coats for the horses. Trinny and Juno go their darkest now and their silky coats are heaven to stroke. The fine fur is filling in on their noses and their thick manes keep them warm at night. Early this morning I looked out and saw them in the pre dawn, Trinny grazing over a sleepy Juno lying in the dewy grass resting her nose on the ground. Soon there will be dark rainy days and mud but for now the ground is firm the grass is thick and the horses are enjoying the gentle days of fall.
