FAZ DEVELOPMENT CORNER: U16 Boys Enroute to Côte d’Ivoire

The U16 Boys National Team left for Abidjan Ivory Coast at 02:10hrs ahead of the FIFA Talent Development Programme tournament scheduled to run from 3rd to 9th September, 2024.

The boys, who are under the tutelage of Coach Ian Bakala, are expected to land in Abidjan later in the day before shifting base to Bingerville where all the action will take place.

Zambia will first face Tanzania on Tuesday before meeting Morocco on 5th September.

Speaking before departure at KKIA, Head Coach Ian Bakala expressed confidence in his boys to deliver.

“Everyone who is here at the moment will fight. They have learnt something which we are going to see in the tournament“ Bakala said.

He also highlighted the importance of this tournament in preparation for the AFCON qualifiers.

“It’s a good tournament and it will give us a good picture of where we are going, because I think the qualifiers are just around the corner.”

Zambia is among the six teams, which include South Africa, Côte d'Ivoire, Algeria, Morocco and Tanzania, participating in the tournament.

FLIGHT SAN PEDRO: Grant Names 27-Member AFCON Crack Squad

Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant has named his final 27-member squad for the Africa Cup of Nations that kicks off on January 13 in Coted’vouire.

The 27-member squad will leave for Saudi Arabia on Monday for an international camp preceding the AFCON and will be domiciled in Jeddah.

Avram Grant and his technical staff have been running the rule on 30 players over four days before selecting the final squad.

Everybody in the squad is excited and waiting for the challenge ahead at the tournament with the technical bench happy with the effort so far.

Whilst in Jeddah Zambia will play Cameroon on January 9 as part of preparations for the tournament with another friendly on the cards with another AFCON bound squad.
At the AFCON the Chipolopolo are in Group F alongside Morocco, Tanzania, and Congo DR.
Zambia’s first match is on January 17 against Congo at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in the coastal city of San Pedro. Four days later the Chipolopolo will take on the Taifa Stars of Tanzania before winding up their group matches on January 24 against the Atlas Lions.

ZAMBIA Vs ANGOLA

Ba Chipulukusu naba Ndola let's turn out in our droves to drum up support for Avell Chitundu and the Shepolopolo as Zambia takes to the stage against Angola in the final round, second leg qualifier of the CAF Women's African Cup of Nations slated for Levy Mwanawasa Stadium at 18h00.

The Copper Queens will go in this game with a comfortable 6 nil lead posted from the first leg a few days ago in Angola.

GRANT NAMES 25 BULLETS FOR FIFA WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS

Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant has named a 25-member squad ahead of the back-to-back Group E 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Congo Brazzaville and Niger respectively.

Grant has retained the core of the squad that helped the team qualify for the 2023 Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations.

However, Grant will be without the injured duo of Scotland based Frankie Musonda and Kelvin Kapumbu while Tandi Mwape has yet to find a club since his contract with TP Mazembe ran out.

The team is a mix of local and foreign based players that will enter camp in NDOLA on November 13 when the FIFA window opens.

Zambia host Congo Brazaaville at the LEVY MWANAWASA STADIUM on NOVEMBER 17 before travelling to Marrakech for a match against Niger which will be held four days later.

GARRY MWELWA CONTINUES TO SHINE FOR LUMWANA

Former U17 Zambia National team and Ndola Youth Soccer Academy midfield maestro Ğârry "Mupa" Mwélwâ has continued to enjoy form and shine for National League outfit Lumwana Radiants having featured in all the last ten league games with a goal and 7 assists to his name this far.

This afternoon the diminutive attacking midfielder had a decent shift in the 2 nil demolition of Young Prison Leopards and his efforts on the day paid divident when he scored the opener in the 38th minute.

Mupa who has also played for the now defunct Gomes FC has cemented his position as a regular at Radiants and hopes to help the Barrick sponsored boys win promotion to the FAZ Mtn Super League.
