Comments

Hi all. As discussed last night with a few of you, I am looking into what is involved in entering in the planned 10's (contact) tournament (played on 4 consecutive Saturdays in Truro- we could play as many or as few weekends as we want). I've spoken to Jack Hanratty at Rugby NS. He's trying to sort out the way to have a team from the South Shore in the tournament (what will be required for registration etc. The club would need to host four contact training sessions. I can help with this, and there are others who would be at least as qualified as me. Once we confirm interest we could try to schedule the sessions.

Below is more info, copied from the Rugby NS newsletter. Please signal in the comments below if you are interested in playing. The discussion thus far has been about entering a mens team but if there is enough interest we could try to bring a womens squad as well.

Senior 10s
Once the Public Health Authority in Nova Scotia announced that beginning October 1st group sizes for sports could increase to a limit of 50 people without having
to physically distance, the question came from the membership, “what can we
create? What can we do to play?”. With only 1 true month of adequate weather
conditions for outdoor sports left, time was of the essence.
The first step taken by RNS was to quickly create a survey to send to all club representatives to find the true want for a senior league in 1 months’ time. The overwhelming response was that clubs wanted to play but were not confident that
they could not field full 15s teams.
RNS made the decision to create a tournament series of senior men’s and women’s 10s that would take place in Truro, NS. “The decision to base the league in
Truro seemed rather straight forward. HRM fields close mid-October and the
luxury of having 3 fields in the same location would cause less stress on the Referee Society. We did look at hosting one of the tournaments at a Valley location,
but without the ownership of fields and the unpredictable maritime winter
weather looming in, we thought it was best to host at a location that could go
ahead rain or shine….or snow,” stated provincial coach Jack Hanratty.
Thanks to Truro Saints RFC for once again use of their facilities to allow rugby
activity to go ahead in Nova Scotia.
Please reach out to your local club for involvement in this league.
Competition Dates:
Saturday, October 17
Saturday, October 24
Saturday, October 31
Saturday, November 7

We are so happy to receive this funding, it means so much to our growing club. This will allow our club to purchase proper equipment, grow our womens/girls team and assist with the barriers we face being from a small community that rugby is not a common sport. Rugby on the South Shore is growing and we hope to soon have a pathway for anyone who wants to play 💗

LETS HELP ALDAR OUT

Aldar is a graduate of Parkview playing for the Panthers rugby team. He frequents Bright and Lion’s club when he is home to help our local team grow. Let’s help him reach his goal!

“Hi, my name is Aldar Meulan. I am a nursing student at Vanier College, and a rugby athlete playing for the Town of Mount-Royal (TMR), Vanier College, and Team Quebec. Rugby is my passion, which is why I am so excited that I have received the opportunity to play in Vancouver this year with Team Quebec at the Canadian Rugby Championship.

I don't want to miss this fantastic opportunity, which is why I am asking for help. Money fundraised will go towards my plane ticket and lodging in Vancouver. This will allow me to further my passion for the sport, and fulfill my dream of making it to Nationals.

Any help is immensely appreciated. If you can't donate, please share! Thank you so much for your support.”
