MATCH REPORT ROUND 5
23/5/21
Away versus Rowe Park
8-0 Win

Good team effort again this week
Plenty of goals and there could have been plenty more.
The pleasing aspect was we continued to try and score through our soccer abilities.
Credit to the Campos the keeper who just came out off hospital with two bruised arms.
He made the scoreboard look more respectable, along with the countless goalmouth defensive scrambles..
We never disrespected them, we fought till the end.
Another clean sheet.
Congrats to Jake for his debut in goals and Joe's debut in the outfield.
Midfield was in total control and when we spread the game wider it opened them up more.
Well done to all the goal scorers.
Thank God you scored Alex didn't want to keep you on for another ten minutes.
Micheal showed what he can do without using his hands,
Sadly Ryan picked up a reoccurring injury. Hope you heal quick.

Thanks to all the helpers and Alex for both cartons of beers, that covers 2 red cards for the year for him.

Official match report desk was on the park playing, so this one done by club legend

MATCH REPORT ROUND 4 9/5/21
Home vs Adelaide Croatia Vukovi
Matheson Imax
Won 5:0
⚽️ Lee (pen. )
⚽️ Christian
⚽️ ⚽️ Frank
⚽️ Abraham

If you were a lucky member of the heaving hordes at Matheson today, you saw yourself a show.

Viking’s preparation through the week was spot on. Properly unified. And that to a man. For this result, nothing less would suffice.

Hold this performance lads. Composure and character. A benchmark has now been set.

It’s amazing how often (or seldom) we say how simple football can be. And when it’s flowing, you share the absolute pleasure of watching work become reward.

After an early chance or two went close, Vikings had shown clear menace. A free kick from Lee saw the ball strike a wayward visiting hand inside the 18 and the resulting spot-kick was duly despatched. The superstitious referee waved remotely centrally (after studiously checking his laces were tied) to indicate the scoreboard was open for business. ⚽️
1:0

Vikings’ second goal was a delight.
Enzo Alexander-Arnold had gone from fullback to a more advanced position, giving Nesh a touch of rest & making good ground to curve a crucial cross for Christian to climb the stairway to heaven, bowing the head and blessing the faithful. ⚽️
You’ll just have to forgive me.
It could be Andy’s fault.
Or possibly Lee’s...
2:0

The rest of the half included many more chances and some fantastic football.
Strangely no further score, though it had looked very likely.

No shortage of action in the second either.

The visiting defence were busy boys and after the ball was desperately fended away from their box Frank was in good position to meet it, sending a scud missile home past a Croatia keeper who’d made several good saves throughout the match. ⚽️
3:0

Vukovi consequently tried a higher line but after Abraham had taken time to re-attach a wayward toe, he was able to break it. The line not the toe. Abe had all the time in the world to apply a cool finish. ⚽️
4:0

The cake was well iced by a chip of speculation. A d**k from Frank on 20 odd yards that snuck in just over the desperate reach of a flailing glove, to glance the underside of the bar & cross the line. Not bad off the non-preferred foot. Inch perfect really...
Gambled. Won. ⚽️
5:0

Vikings had welcomed back Vince and Alex from injury, both having an impact when introduced & perhaps slightly unlucky not to be on the scoresheet. Good work boys, and steady as she goes.

Focus was 100%. Both on & off-field - perhaps (no; definitely!) with maybe the exception of Smith who may have earned himself a Broken Boot nom for excessive rotations late in the game, however fortunately Tyson was switched on from the park to settle the excitement. Not bad going given a Viking brother had earlier gifted him a hefty yet somewhat intimate two-faced-falcon minus the ball.
The Dichiera dial was fine by the way. The Matej-moosh wasn’t. No matter, thought the guilty, as he departed the scene with a happy chorus of “Ohh, sorry. Hey man... Friendly fire!”, leaving his victim the task of a careful exam to ensure all his gold fillings were still securely anchored in their besieged dental harbour.
‘Boot there too apparently Enz…!

Joey-G could thank the whole side for his clean sheet really, but also did his own work well, having good command of his area & saving a certain late goal. Meanwhile Simon had kept going all day, frustrating the opposition’s centre forward and running a strong back line. Surprisingly, the feet felt their age at one point though and went for a small kip, the stalwart defender finding himself heading the ball around ankle level when the ground seemed like it suddenly fancied him for lunch.
Sometimes it’ll be difficult and try to eat anything...
Wont be told either.

In the summing up: A home performance ranking with some of the best at Matheson.

Burn eternal that Viking spirit...!

Bye this week - Cup nonsense.

So, Quiz nite fun at the Daly!

Rowe Park away the next.

The Vikings are on the march.
Settle in...!

MATCH REPORT ROUND 3 1/5/21
Away vs Elephant Warriors
Grange Reserve (not the Penfolds)
Won 2:0
⚽️ Abraham
⚽️ Ryan

The Black and the Blue.
When you play amateurs, there’s always a bruise or two...

Early attacks went the way of the Elephant men but Adelaide Vikings FC soon saw off the offensive ‘ivory’ trade and took over the game with composure and control, effectively killing any thrust.

For 30 minutes Vikings had everything but a goal. One looked like coming, but seemed almost Disney-shy to make an appearance... Lee’s corners were on song & a Tyson header was well saved by the upright. Ty totalled 3 or 4 nods at goal out there. The belfry was a-ringin’... Sadly the scoreboard wasn’t.

Ryan found clean air to bomb down the flank today and cut in firing one across the face with a first effort. The visiting side knew a score was sorely needed before the interval. The ever hungry away-horde felt it too. Another corner was won and the call sounded. ‘Ironic-Lee’ graciously made way for Subsequent Smith who was brought on to apply his special powers of deceptive lack of pace and added aerial threat.
Cue standard ‘Mad-Gag’ gesture - with almost one, if not two, dislocated shoulders... 🤷🏻‍♂️ (See Shaggy for taping mate. Or Louie who recently qualified. 👍🏼)

Anyway, Team Tall-timber combined to cut the opposition apart with some nice interplay. All at grass level.
Sub~Smithy was on the rush (these don’t go long - you have to pay attention) and soon tuned in with a Diing-dong* one-two. The youngster was on his absolute best form today, getting first to a sneaky through ball & crossing well for an undeniable Abraham, who sliced his own way through on six yards under pressure, poking home ⚽️.
Maximum value prior to the long-time-coming whistle for the break.
1:0

Today Nick & Frank combined well in the centre of the park, often hunting as a pair. Each benefitted from the other’s pressure, winning the right to distribute or charge the Elephants. Had to be done... and they showed how it was.
One showed usual drive & determination, killing the home side’s ability to play easily through the centre. The other was near-infallible in possession and especially hard-working first half. The E-Wozzas should’ve tried another tack - they certainly had boys waiting - even sitting - in the wings. Pretty sure one even went for smoko & no one noticed.

Joey the Glove was operating in smooth-mode and could largely thank Vikings’ solid backline wall for his silky clean sheet. Very fitting too, when at one point the visitors had no less than four keepers on the field!

Second half, Frank caught every bit of one solid shot from the D - and was well deserving of a goal today. However sweet the strike, it brought the best from the home keeper, who was right up to the tusk with a brilliant acrobatic save.

Elephants went down often though & couldn’t cope with the calibre of Vikings’ physicality. Let’s say there were a few ‘horizontal interludes’.
The Payne-train rolled through a few stations... whilst Chi, Shags & Pete all applied their own brand of smash & grab. Others just stood or fell on people. Possibly they were in the way.

Back to the action & Lee was momentarily like Icarus, so high did he fly with a midfield header the sun grew jealous. At the same time all the blood left his beans. Maybe there were other raisins. This might’ve been why a little later, a sure-thing finish became a 7-yard spray... Ouch, at one-nil too... Not many, if any, were as devastated as he. What are you gonna do?
The only thing you can: Get on with it.

So we did. Ryan cashed in on some more wide break action, the best of which by far was a proper ‘dine-out: all-you-can-eat’ 35 yard^ complete thunderstrike. ⚽️ Certain goal of the year contender... keeper no chance. Funny, the fairly well uninformed just finished wisely saying “No, dont do that...” (take it all on yourself). Oh alright, probs ok if you did do that then. As you were mate. Bloody cracker!
2:0

Vikings could now make the most of their two goal cushion & power home to the end. It was mostly one-way pressure & surely some icing to the cake would be applied. Several chances amounted to nought though, and even a goal-bound strike off the scone of Smith head from a well placed corner was somehow minced off the line.

Next: Vukovi must try a visit on Viking shores....
A lip-smacking feast of football action awaits!!
Who wants it more?!
🤘🏼⚽️🤘🏼

*the bells of celebration are still ringing.
