The WFTDA is thrilled to announce that the 2025 WFTDA Global Championships will take place November 7-9 2025, hosted by Atlantis Roller Derby. This marks the first-ever global roller derby championship to be held in a fully submerged venue, demonstrating WFTDA’s commitment to expanding the sport’s reach as we look forward to a bold, amphibious future.

This year’s Global Championship Competition will feature an invite-only structure, bringing together twelve of the most exciting and dynamic teams from around the world—both land and sea. The following teams have secured their spot and will be battling for the Hydro-dra trophy in November:

Atlantis Merpeople (Atlantis Roller Derby)
The Loch Ness Blockers (Inverness Roller Derby)
The Bermuda Triangle Track Cutters (Bermuda Triangular Rollers)
Wheels of Justice (Rose City Rollers, Portland, OR, USA)
Krakens of All of the Deep (Uncharted Waters Roller Derby)
Hollow Earth Hellions (Chappell Roan’s Internet)
The Yetis of Jamalaya (Himalayas High Rollers)
Sasquatch Slammers (Regional Collective from various forests of the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Mountain region, USA and Canada)
Medusa’s Gorgon Guardians (Hesperides Roller Gorgons, Greece)
The Business End (Vogon Roller Derby)
The Valkyrie Vortex (14th Century Norway Roller Derby, graciously returned to earth by Valhalla for one last great battle)
The Marauding Moomins (Finland & Sweden)

Selection Process

Rather than relying solely on regional rankings, the WFTDA Competitive Play Committee took a bold approach to team selection for 2025, focusing on criteria that truly define a high-quality roller derby experience.

“While numeric rankings have traditionally played a major role in Championship qualification, this year we looked at factors that we believe better reflect the spirit of the game,” said Competitive Play Committee Chair Tide Turner. “Selections were based on a rigorous assessment of warm-up routines, the creativity of pre-jam banter, dance moves during Official Timeouts, and, of course, the overall aesthetic impact of team logos. We believe these metrics will lead to a more entertaining, engaging, and highly photogenic tournament.” Vogon Roller Derby will lead the opening ceremony with a poetry recitation.

We’re offering a small stipend + free tickets to our games in exchange for your expertise!

🔍 Who We Need:
✔ Certified First Responders, EMTs, or Paramedics
✔ Physicians with sports medicine, orthopedic, or emergency experience
✔ Athletic Trainers with CPR training
✔ LPNs or RNs with CPR and relevant medical experience
✔ Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants with CPR and sports medicine/ortho/emergency experience
