Happy Summer!

As we approach our July circle gathering on July 10th, I remembered this quote: “There shall be eternal summer in the grateful heart.” ~ Celia Thaxter

Each time we come together, we arrive with gratitude for each woman who chooses to share the evening with us. Our circles are always a rejuvenating blend of curiosity, appreciation, meaningful connections, and movement practices to nurture and energize us. We listen, share, and inspire one another to live with intention.

Looking ahead, mark your calendars for our August 7th gathering!

✨Here we go! Just weeks away from holding this book in my hands! I am an author!

✨It’s been a nine month writing journey, reflecting, crafting, and submitting multiple drafts. The journey included, incredible coaching and workshops with and Awe, inspiring support of seventeen other women whose inspiring stories are included in the book.

✨Here is an excerpt from my chapter.

“The Story I Told Myself”
“I arrived at the house with a mixture of nerves and raw emotion.
Carefully parking my car at a distance, hidden behind a towering tree, I took a few minutes to compose myself before making my way to the front door. I silently said a heartfelt prayer, asking that my presence be an offering of solace rather than a source of further pain. Being there served as a poignant reminder of the
deep gratitude I held for my own life.”

Next week! When women circle shift happens!

“When you breathe in, your mind comes back to your body, and then you become fully aware that you’re alive, that you are a miracle and everything you touch could be a miracle — the orange in your hand, the blue sky, the face of a child.”

—Thich Nhat Hanh

Krista sat with for a rare conversation in the early years of On Being, and it has touched many. It is astonishing to re-experience the deep, enduring wisdom this monk leaves for our world.

Next Wednesday, August 3rd, is the next gathering; join us!

I couldn't love these evenings more...

One of the highlights (because there are many❣️) I personally loved from last month's circle was the sweet stories shared around our "ice breaker" question.

"A favorite summer memory as a child or an adult." The stories ranged from childhood memory to a recent summer memory. Sweet and tender stories shared! Such a gift for each of us to share and listen to each other's stories.

Becca Stevens is one of my favorite humans. Her words, her wisdom and her work aways filled with love and inspiration.

A few weeks ago, I bought a Christmas ornament.
Yes, in mid-April I held a Christmas ornament in a shop in Charleston.

Susan, IBU’s owner, laughed and said, "Yup, we are selling Christmas ornaments for Spring."
Susan further explained that artisan survivors in Haiti weren't able to get holiday products to the store until February.

I bought them--how could you not?
I bought the round styrofoam balls, covered in purple sequins with safety pins.

One of my favorite things about homemade art is holding the creation and imagining the woman who made it--What did she think about? Was she worried about her kids? Was she listening to a podcast? Did she say a prayer like a rosary as she placed each of the 500 pins in the soft, styrofoam ball?

As I held the sparkling Christmas ornaments, I could see them intertwined in greenery during the holidays on the altar at the chapel where I preach.

I could imagine decorating with them and breaking an Episcopal Advent rule: "Don't add color to the greenery!"

In breaking the rule, I felt hope. We would be submitting to a higher rule, one of love and solidarity with women working to make a better life.

It was an extravagant purchase for love.

There is no comparison between these and the mass-produced ones at a big box store. These ornaments offer the miracle of Christmas in Spring!

It is a dazzling wonder that there was a woman in Haiti, who in the midst of a pandemic, the shooting of a prime minister, and horrific natural disasters, sat down and perfectly placed pins and sequins in a styrofoam ball—to make something better for her life.

There is a miracle in overcoming hardships and still finding space for creativity.

The world can inflict so much on women, especially those who know the violence and vulnerability of poverty. But it cannot take away creativity, and creativity is always a sign of hope.

Delia's campaign for National Breast Center Foundation 09/10/2021

In 2013 at age 49 I never expected to hear these words after a breast biopsy…“it’s not what we were hoping for”.

I felt betrayed by my body, confused, and for a hot second spent time wondering what I HAD done to cause this outcome.

Everyone’s journey is different and I chose to share mine. I shared because I needed a tribe, to hold me up. In my wildest dreams, I wouldn’t have expected the support and love I received. I once heard some ask, where was God? Why me? God is in the tribe, the doctors, the meals delivered, and more.

I shared as a way of saying get your damn mammogram, become familiar with your body, not afraid of it. Prioritize your MENTAL
and PHYSICAL health.

Women are badass givers, caretakers, and make the world go round, but don’t undervalue your need to receive and rest, work hard and play, create, pray, write, dance..Whatever makes your heart sing💕

Please consider making a donation to my campaign and/or join the WALK to BUST Cancer on October 24th 9am.

It’s the last week for our September class theme “lightness in transition”.

🍁How’s it going transitioning from Summer to Fall?

🍁What if you made transitions easier? Less resistance?

🍁Sometimes we need to get out of our own way and give ourselves a break. Not just physically but let go of the mind chatter.

🍁Be gentle with yourself today. Try this hip opener at the wall for 15+ breaths and switch legs.

🍁Swipe left for my weekly class schedule and “lighten” up✌🏻

🍁We are playing with curiosity in transitions in our physical poses. ✌🏻
