Redemption is: the action of regaining or gaining possession of something in exchange for payment, or clearing a debt.
In this case Redemption is Golden.
After a series of unfortunate events at Nationals it takes a true champion to put things behind you and jump back on the horse as quickly as this one did.
Yesterday Steph managed to do what many never will, look her demons square in the eye and give a them a big f**k you. She not only took away first place but managed a 5kg bench press PR and a 10kg deadlift PR. Walking away with a total in sleeves equal to her wrapped total.
Also, a little belated but It would be rude to not mention the achievements of Josh last weekend at Below Parallel's annual Blood & Metal novice powerlifting competition. Josh had a near perfect run in and It showed, walking away with a 20kg squat PR and chipping his bench 2.5kg.
A massive thank you to both and for giving up their weekends to host such good competitions. The Bar Brisbane will be hosting their next novice powerlifting competition 19th March 2023.

So now that I am over the man flu (yes even the most rugged and resilient amongst us get sick now and then) and have caught up on some paperwork, it would be rude to just carry on and pretend that this just didn’t happen. This being The Australian Powerlifting League National Championships on the Gold Coast. Team BM had three competitors and I could not be prouder of these three ladies.
Friday we had Cassandra “She Hulk” Alexander take to the platform and she walked away with 3 personal bests, 3 national records and a gold medal around her neck.
Squat 167.5kg (NR+7.5)
Bench 85kg (+5)
Deadlift 165kg (NR)
Total 417.5 (NR + 17.5kg)
First Place
Saturday we had Sinead “The Hammer” Houston take to the platform and she walked away with a national squat record an equal best total and a cheeky silver medal for 2nd place There was no doubt more there on the day but we explored some possibilities and took some attempts that were just out of reach. Never mind, you just need to do that sometimes. I can’t wait till the next competition.
Squat 150kg (NR)
Bench 75kg
Deadlift 150kg
Total 375kg
Second Place
And last but certainly not least, Sunday was Katherine “The Enforcer” Wrights time to shine. Kat opened her squat attempts with a world record and then went on to also take the deadlift world record and walk away with both 1st place and a world record total. Not too bad.
Squat 175 kg (WR)
Bench 87.5 kg
Deadlift 175kg (WR)
Total 437.5 (WR)
First Place
Thank you to all those that came down and cheered the team on and thanks to those that watched the live stream at home and sent messages of encouragement. Your support doesn’t go unnoticed. Next stop Worlds 2022.

Yet again, it’s Time to wrap up another successful comp. This time we are talking about the GPC Regional Cup (what was supposed to be the GPC National Championships). Kat “The Enforcer” Wright and I took to the platform over 2 days and we had an absolute blast.
On Day 1 Kat had a very successful comp with 4 from 4 PRs, picking up Squat, Bench and Total national records and 2nd place.
Squat 187.5 (+2.5 kg) National Record
Bench 100 (+2.5 kg) National Record
Deadlift 180 (+5kg) Take that Scotty!!!
Total 467.5
Kat has now completed 3 successful competition preparations back-to-back and has earnt a well-deserved rest.
Day 2 the men took the platform and I had what was most likely my most successful competition day to date. Squatting a lifetime goal 3 x bodyweight and taking home 3rd place.
Squat 277.5 (+12.5 kg)
Bench 145
Deadlift 250 (+5kg)
Total 677.5
Thank you to all those involved in making this amazing competition go ahead given the current uncertainties, all the lifters and coaches thank and appreciate you. And also, a massive thank you to all those that came out to support the team from those cheerleading in the crowd to those rolling wraps and getting after it behind the scenes, too many to thank but you know who you are.

What a beautiful sight, powerlifting competitions back in full swing. Starting this weekend gone, Team Biomechanical is competing across 3 different competitions over a 4 week period, it’s going to be busy and I’ll call it already very successful for Team Biomechanical (no pressure).⠀
⠀
Kat took to the platform yesterday to set the tone and she did just that. This was always going to be a good day on the platform, Kat put in all the work that was asked of her, stayed injury free and thanks to came in under weight days before comp. ⠀
⠀
The day started exceptionally well with a 185kg squat for a 10kg PR, and she went on to add 10kg to her own Australian bench press record (105kg) and sprinkle an equal PR 170 kg deadlift. This all combined gave her the new Australian total record of 460kg.⠀
⠀
Special thanks and all the referees, helpers and handlers on the day. I personally had a blast and look forward to coming back for Push-Pull in a few weeks then bring on State Titles early next year!⠀
⠀
Next up, Heavy Metal 3 , Lets go!!!⠀

One of the most commonly asked questions is “Nick, what do you think of (insert meal prep company) should I buy meals rather than make my own. I really don’t have the…….”⠀
⠀
The short answer is absolutely yes! If you can spare the money, or lack the requisite cooking prowess to eat healthy on the go, then you would be silly not to. There is a plethora of options out there to suit all tastes and budgets. ⠀
⠀
Things have been a bit hectic the last few weeks and I don’t always have time to prepare a good healthy meal for the next day. That’s the exact reason I have been getting these delicious meals from ⠀
⠀
These meals are restaurant quality and absolutely delicious, there is just something about knowing you have a delicious meal incoming that makes you train/roll that much harder.

So your deepest prayers have been answered, the majority of gyms in Australia are now open and you can get that sleeve splitting pump on or that vomit inducing HIIT session or whatever else causes your friends and family to look at you oddly. ⠀
⠀
I would like to offer these 3 tips for starting back at your local fitness facility ( , if you are lucky enough):⠀
⠀
1) Adjust your expectations: Your home workouts are different to your regular gym workouts and different workout modalities challenge you in different ways. There is no doubt that your home workouts where challenging and effective but do not expect to simply step into the gym and pick-up where you left just because you have been doing a few banded lunges.⠀
⠀
2) Ditch the body-part/bro splits: Your biggest priority heading back into training is going to be building back up your training volume. Smashing a single body part for 30+ sets to the point of 3 day DOMS is the worst thing you could do. Instead, opt to hit a few total body workouts a few days/week and slowly transition back into your favourite training split.⠀
⠀
3) Hit your protein target: You can only train as hard as you can recover…. Profound, I know, but eating to match your specific energy output is up there with getting proper and adequate sleep. Especially when it comes to recovery and putting together a successful training block. ⠀
⠀
If you would like to see what a return to training block can look like for you, get in touch and we can get you on the right track and heading towards your goals faster than most.

Good afternoon team, ⠀
⠀
For those that weren’t aware, until today it has been illegal to visit individuals at their home and provide personal fitness services in any capacity. ⠀
⠀
However, Queensland Health has recommended lifting such restrictions and I am happy to announce that Biomechanical Home Base will be operational from the start of next week. I believe I have everything required to deliver the highest quality sessions imaginable.⠀
⠀
I will be happy to train you all but given the home-schooling situation and the fact we just got a new very high maintenance K9 family member (long story), spaces will be subject to availability and will be on a first in first served basis. ⠀
⠀
I absolutely cannot wait to get stuck in. Let’s get it!!!⠀
