Meet Ellen! Owner of Rock Pilates in Cold Spring Harbor, New York … practically our neighbor! 🏘️

Ellen has been teaching Pilates for over 24 years and was initially certified in 2001 under the mentorship of the well known Bob Liekens. She opened her own studio, in 2015 and embraced the role of owner and leader. She then found us and completed her bridge certification under and was hooked! What pulled her in most was that we shared the same respect she has for Joseph Pilates and keeping his work alive for generations to come.

Immediately upon graduation, she became a host studio owner and Rock Pilates is now on our roster. And we couldn’t be happier!! 🥰

While Joseph Pilates was the originator of the classical Pilates method, there are a handful of people who worked with him first hand and carried the method on. In the classical Pilates world, we refer to these individuals as the “elders”. Romana Kryzanowska was one of those elders. Our owner and founder, Alycea Ungaro, had the privilege of working with her closely. She dedicates a section of her recent interview with to her experience and learnings from Romana.

Alycea gives Romana credit for many aspects of her teaching style, as “Working with Romana for the next ten years gave me the depth and breadth of this incredible body of work.”

Because of Romana and the importance of preserving the history that surrounds the classical Pilates method, Alycea “felt called to "carry the torch" of Romana's training sharing the teaching techniques and tools that she taught to me”.

And now here we are years later, with an international teacher training program that works daily to “carry the torch” and train the 3rd generation of classical Pilates instructors.
