🦆♟️ WHAT THE DUCK?! WE’RE BACK!♟️🦆

Term 4 kicked off last night with a quack-tastic 4-round Duck Chess tournament. 🐥

With ducks on the boards, things quickly got a little quackers as our players tried to navigate the chaos! 😂

🦆 Imagine regular chess… with a rogue rubber duck throwing a spanner in the works! 🤣

Every turn, players make a normal chess move AND move the rubber duck to an empty square. The duck blocks the square it sits on, so pieces can't land there or pass through it (sorry, knights, you can jump over it, but you can't land on it!). The duck can't be captured, there’s no check or checkmate, and the goal is to capture your opponent's king. Talk about a quacking good twist! 🦆♟️

🦆♟️ TERM 4 IS ABOUT TO GET A LITTLE… DUCKY!

North Coast Chess Club returns on Wednesday, 14 October—and we’re opening the term with something a little different: a fun Duck Chess tournament!

Whether you’re an experienced tournament player, still learning the game or simply looking for a friendly place to enjoy chess, all ages and skill levels are welcome.

Our Term 4 programme will include Duck Chess, blindfold chess and a new Rated Standard Swiss Tournament—with prizes and plenty of good chess along the way.

♟️ With so many players competing over just five rounds, placings were tight, and every point mattered!♟️

🏆 In the U8: Beudan took 1st place with a full score! Olivia finished 8th overall and claimed the Top Female. A fantastic showing from our youngest players! 👏🏼

🥈 In U10 Boys: Micah finished 2nd, Milan 4th and Luca 10th.

♟️ In U12 Boys: Josiah finished 4th and Kai 9th.

♟️ In U14 Boys: Jared finished 8th.

♟️ FROM DISTRICT TRIALS TO TEAM KZN! 💙🏆

It's been chess for breakfast, lunch and dinner for our Snehin! Remember when we congratulated him on progressing through the Pinetown District Summer Games chess selections.

Well... he kept going! 🔥

After progressing through the final KZN Schools Summer Games selection pathway, we are so proud to say he was one of four boys selected to represent KZN! 👏👏👏

Next stop: National Summer Games in Limpopo this December!

We love seeing the pipeline live and in action. From local school chess, through the selection stages and now onto the national stage representing KwaZulu-Natal schools♟️💙

Congratulations, Snehin! Your North Coast chess family will be cheering you on all the way to Limpopo. 🏆

♟️🏆 THAT’S A WRAP ON OUR TERM 3 SWISS!🏆♟️

Wednesday night brought us to the final round of our Term 3 Swiss, and what better way to finish than with some great games, plenty of chess chat and our end-of-term prize giving! 👏

A big thank you to Dad Leon for helping out with the prize giving — and for bringing a little extra style to proceedings! 😎 He certainly arrived dressed for the occasion and looked the part!

Now it’s time for a short break… but we’re already looking ahead to next term, and we have a very exciting programme lined up before our next Swiss begins.

From 14 players to 46 in just a few months! We love seeing so many children at Shakaskraal Primary School getting excited about chess, even spending part of their lunch breaks playing.

Well done to coach Prince Mthembu, the North Coast Chess Club, D&D Chess Association and Coastal Farmers Co-Op for helping these young players keep learning.

The school now has enough boards but still needs more chess pieces. If you have any to donate, send us a DM and we’ll put you in touch.

Pupils involved willingly give up half an hour of their lunch break to play, with an additional training session offered before the school day starts.

♟️ Players faced off last night for the penultimate round of our Term 3 Swiss.

With age-category medals and trophies awaiting the top three finishers, who has what it takes to cross the finish line? 🏆

Before the serious chess began, our players had the chance to try a little Duck Chess—a preview of our first fun event planned for next term.

And, of course, they took to it… like ducks to water! 🦆♟️
