We made it back to one of the Western Cape's most iconic wine estate rides Boschendal, and wow, the new trail signage has completely transformed the experience. No more second-guessing at intersections, everything flows the way it should. The trails themselves are in incredible shape, the terrain is varied and fun, and the views... let's just say the Franschhoek mountains don't disappoint. These are some of the best trails we have EVER ridden. The best part is you are flanked by Banhoek on one side and Plaisir De Merle on the other.... MTB Heaven.

But Boschendal isn't just about the riding. This place is a full family day out... There's so much for the kids to explore on the farm, from animals to open spaces, incredible food, and that unmistakable estate atmosphere. Whether you're dropping in for a post-ride lunch or making a whole weekend of it, Boschendal delivers.

TokaiMTB has stepped things up with revised DH lines and we decided it was time to see what all the hype was about! 🚵‍♂️🔥

Now… full disclosure… we are NOT downhill riders. We’re your average weekend warriors who enjoy a good trail ride, a bit of adrenaline, and occasionally questioning our life choices halfway down a feature 😅

So we headed out to Tokai to explore the updated lines, see what’s rideable for everyday riders, and most importantly… survive the experience. What we found was an incredibly fun day out filled with fast descents, intimidating features, laughs, sketchy moments, and a whole new level of respect for proper DH riders.

The best part? Even if you’re not a hardcore downhill racer, there’s still plenty here to enjoy and progress on. We definitely didn’t hit every feature this time, but it gave us the confidence to come back and keep pushing ourselves.

If you’ve been curious about Tokai’s DH trails but felt intimidated, hopefully this video gives you a realistic look at what to expect from the perspective of normal riders just out to have fun.
