Check these fu***ng pigs in Witsand. They have at least 12 to 16 fish like these.
Guided kayak fishing around Cape Point and the southern peninsula, as well as the sale of used kayak fishing tackle and equipment.

While the wind was pumping no doubt, the chance to fish alone on a Saturday afternoon was something I was all too grateful for.
That and the rumours of smaller class Yellowfin inshore .
As always battling personal circumstances and a low level of fitness i hoessed into the wind toward the most likely location based on the presence of the open ocean birds.
Almost immediately it became clear there were tuna in the location I chose .
Problem is I was expecting smaller class fish, maybe 3 to 4 times the size of the skipjack.
Much to my surprise while retrieving a top water lure , a Tuna between 50 to 60 kgs exploded in full view 10 meters from the ski didn’t hook up , turned side on and hit my rapala of exactly the same colour within the next second or two.
As the water was only relatively shallow the tuna quickly hit bottom then headed SSE at a rate of knots. The SE blowing one way and the tuna heading the other with a tatty 40 lb leader it was inevitable I would be spooled on the Penn 545.
Obviously I never let a fish spool me so it broke off with 50 m to go .
Disappointing yes . But better than sitting at home twiddling your thumbs.
And of course man alone.

Trek net boat out way beyond their legal limit this morning at Fish Hoek.
It was only just a few weeks ago when there was absolute bu****it coming over 71 about where the recreational boats are allowed within the bay when it is clearly demarcated on the maps.
Someone needs to focus on where the real problem lies .
Thankfully they blanked hard today.

New Year’s Eve morning I managed to hook this fish from the shore over 100m out and land it through and over dense kelp .
Not easy with a 4.5 kg tail.
Best of all there wasn’t another soul braving the wind at any of the shore based locations north of the reserve.

Not lekker for the locals. Pic taken this very minute.

A small rubber duck assisting the trek netters to map out the rock they have consistently been snagging on.
Then also alerting them via his fish finder to the presence of any subsurface fish.
Why he would do such a thing is beyond me especially for this particular crew.

Between the devil and the deep blue sea...
I’m expecting some successful treks in the next few days.

My wife was happy to finally get a katonkel again . Me too.
While this yellowtail may have escaped a shark recently, it was unfortunately the end of the line for him today. It is satisfying to need a fish and go out there and get it , turn around and go home .
None of this 6 to 8 hr paddling 35 + km rubbish to work the numbers in your favour.
That is not fishing and never will be.

Not many slipways in the world where you can come back from fishing and have game grazing nearby.
Being more skittish than yellowtail these guys don’t hang around when it’s not quiet and peaceful , which is unfortunately all too rare nowadays .

Some say the fish was spawning and had lockjaw .
I’d call it locked on .
Locked on to something 2 cm long with a pinky fingernail for size comparison.
Then it’s just a matter of working through your repertoire until the fish hatch looks reasonably full.
