Today was World Restart a Heart Day. Sisaphila went to Fezeka Secondary School in Gugulethu and taught 100 Grade 9 pupils the very important but easy skill of hands-only CPR. This was part of The South African Resuscitation Council’s goal to teach 10000 school children this important skill. Sisaphila is glad to have been part of this.
A shout out to all our helpers on the day, the College of Emergency Care, student and foreign volunteers, Ms Juliet from the school as well as the class of EMCT that helped make the day possible! You guys are all legends!

Mandela day was a huge success! It was such fun giving our 67 minutes back to the community by teaching our patient’s family and friends in the waiting room how to do hands-only CPR!
7 events were held at 7 different sites - Tygerberg, Mitchell’s Plain, Victoria, Groote Schuur, Paarl and New Somerset Hospitals, as well as Heideveld Emergency Centre.
450 people were educated how to do hands-only CPR as well as what basic steps need to be taken in an emergency. Furthermore they were educated as to what number to phone in an emergency and what to do when they witness someone choking.
Great fun giving back our 67 minutes to the communities that need this most!
Sisaphila has had a productive couple of months. From an event at Baphumele children’s home on the 30th of May, to an event at Gospel Raman church as part of their wellness day on the 1st of June. And Mandela day was a big success as well!
Very great fun for all and so much appreciation for all that helped with the events.
Pics and details of our Mandela day event to follow tomorrow 😀
